Hi,

I am trying to redesign my CH system, at the moment I have 3 floors, ground 1st and 2nd. My CH is either on, on all levels or off. I want to be able to switch each level on independantly of each other.

I have a Worcester 28 greenstar boiler an unvented water storage tank a honeywell programmer and one thermostat in the downstairs hall.

What I propose to do is use a Horstmann ChannelPlus H47XL 4 Channel 7 Day Programmer with 3 Hortsmann HRT4-ZW Wireless Room Thermostats and recievers (one for each level) I am going to use Honeywell 4043 valves (as I have them already)

Does anyone forsee a problem with this design or can suggest a better way of doing things? any advice would be greatly appreciatted.

Thanks guys

I zoned my home when I did a re fit hot water and towel rails on twin channel programmer with stat for towel rails .rads on first floor programable room stat.two times under floor heating zones programable room stats.works really well.the work is more in the way you pipe it up and not in the way you control it.

it was a sensible suggestion, if you fit the bathroom on the living zone you dont need to turn a whole zone on to use a warm bathroom.

the most sensible suggestion i have is get help from somebody who knows what he/she is doing when you fit it.

The thing is my whole house is on one zone, bathroom, en suite and downstairs toilet included. I never realised that bathrooms were normally on their own zone. My House is only 4 years old and was built by a big company with an excellent reputation (I know it could still be wrong though) would this design break building reg's?

I will be getting a certified heating Engineer to install/fit the design that I decide on. The reason I am asking questions on here is I want to tap into the wealth of knowledge and experience from plumbers/heating engineers uk wide as opposed to one local guy who will have his own way of doing it.

What do you think about the design I am thinking of with the horstmann kit I have mentioned? It is a manifold system installed for my CH at the moment with speedfit fittings and barrier pipe etc so should be easily enough modified.

Any suggestions/ideas appreciatted

Why not get the engineer to design it? Tell him what your requirements are and he'll translate it into a spec.
Because I want to explore different options and opinions and hopefully develop my understanding before committing to a design that I may not fully understand and end up not being happy with later on. As i said if I get one local guy to design it im only getting his opinion.

bathroom does not have to be on its own zone. It depends on how you use the house. If you have one zone for living space for during the day when your in the kitchen, living room etc.... but use the bathroom upstairs then pipe the bathroom to the living zone or if you have a downstairs toilet and not really need the bathroom warm during the day then put it on a different zone. Base your choices on how you use the property most of the time. each zone will require interlock'd control with the boiler/system.
