just a quickie, does anyone know which boiler manufacturers say not to use softened water in them. it's for someone on a facebook page i'm a member of saying they want a softener and i said i would find out.

we've decided to wait and see what boiler the chap has actually got before bombarding him with loads of names.

Ideal and bakki. Use what u like on a ravencheap. Isars have it printed on burner door! Do not use softened water - boiler will become a nuisance! Think every isar in UK had soft water in it at some point?

Can you get a direct main to the filling loop? Fit anything then.

Just put softener on bypass and run furthest tap for 5 mins.

cheers everyone i think between me and another plumber on the page we've sorted him out and now erring towards just having a softener tap with a filter rather than the whole house on one.

Oh, no it's 1000% nicer to shower and bathe in soft water. Just keep garden tap, kitchen cold tap and filling loop hard. Rather than running a hard and soft supply to boiler just fit a filling loop remotely under sink with a remote gauge. Bound to be a heating pipe in kitchen.
