For the past couple of months the water coming out of our hot taps has been boiling. At first we thought nothing of it. However we've now been hit with a £1600 gas bill. Just before it started I think I fiddled with a switch on the mid-position actuator (we had no hot water at all. Turned out the boiler was just switched off). From what I've seen, I believe this may be the issue. The actuator's side switch is stuck on 'W' and won't move.
Does anyone have any idea if this is the issue, and if so, how it can be fixed?
(Also does anyone know if we'd be able to do anything about the gas bill?)

does it move when you turn heating on?

Funnily enough, our heating doesn't actually work either

take the head off (there a button on the side push it in) and does the spindle move should be easy wont move that much 1/4 each way from centre (L and r)

Terribly sorry for my cluelessness, but I'm not entirely sure what you mean. This is what I've currently got. I took the top off of it WIN_20160703_13_56_56_Pro.jpg

I've got the top off. If the spindle is the bit that was connected to the head, it only turns about 1/6 of a rotation counter-clockwise

does this part move freely

Danfoss_HSV3_3_port_valve_body_087N659900__12562_zoom.jpg

it might look different (mounting wise but there will be something like it) and should only move about 1/6 either way the body not the head

It's only moving about 1/6 counterclockwise, not clockwise

do you know how old the valve is (sorry to be a pain)

Not sure entirely how old. It'll be over 10 years though

thats fine it would be best to replace the whole 3 port valve

you have two options

try and do it your self if you feel capable 3-4 rating
(1 being very easy and 5 being get a profession in)

or get a heating eng to do if for you
you can post the job here to see if anyone is local to you
