Hi All

My first post on this forum so hello to you all ! :)

My flat as a gravity fed hot and cold feed for the bathroom. The kitchen has a mains fed cold and a gravity fed hot for my mixer tap.The hot water pressure is dire and you have to turn the cold practically off to get warm water mixing. At present the mains in has been turned to 50% closed i think as its too much otherwise. This feeds the kitchen tap and the tank that feeds the bathroom.

Now i was looking for a cheap way to boost just the hot side of the mixer as everything else works fine as it is.

I was thinking i could purchase a single 1.2bar pump ( [DLMURL="http://www.ukplumbersforums.co.uk/redirector.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jcsbathrooms.com%2F12-bar-stuart-turner-showermate-single-pump-p-2128.html%3Fcurrency%3DGBP"]http://www.jcsbathrooms.com/12-bar-stuart-turner-s...[/DLMURL]) and plumb this under the sink on the hot water feed before the mixer tap. My friend said as the cold is mains (limited as mentioned above) it might damage the pump if it went back up the pipe to the pump. Therefore i was thinking i could fit a one-way check valve just after the pump to protect it from any feedback from the cold.

Would be a reasonable solution to my problem and not wreck a pump ?

Cheers ! :)

Steve

Whats the cold pressure like in the bathroom? It could be that your cold feed pipework into your HWC has an air gap in it (no fall in the pipework), from the CWSC. Thus reducing the flow of cold water / hot water.

Hi ProffesorPlumb, thanks for replying :)

The hot/cold pressure in the bathroom is perfectly fine. The power shower is happy also and that demands a hell of a lot.

It just seems to be the hot feed in the kitchen which is about 8-10 ft away :)

Btw the i understood HWC(Hot water Cylinder) but not CWSC... probably being a bit dense ! Sorry

Hi
The solution would be to fit a bi-flow mixer (the waters join at outlet, mixing in atmosphere) The primary problem with pumping the hot supply it not to protect the hot supply but to stop the potential contamination of incoming mains supply.
Good luck

surely it should be a bi flow on a kitchen sink, dout waterboard impressed if not.
