These nuts appear to be specials. O/d of thread is same (1.041 inches) as that of the standard 3/4" BSP threaded compression nut used for ordinary 22 mm compression fittings. But the pitch (tpi: threads per inch) is much finer: 18 tpi instead of the 14 tpi of 3/4" BSP.

I have two 2-ports zone valves which work fine, but only one original nut between them! One valve is a Honeywell and the other a Drayton. The surviving nut is from the Honeywell. It is stamped, but only with the pipe code (BS864-2) and the metric pipe o/d size (22 mm).

Honeywell won't answer questions because I am not a professional plumber. I do only DIY for our own home, in fact, but have lots of plumbing experience as a result of massive house renovation.

I'd like to be potentially able to fit one or both of these zone valves, so where can I get the special fine-thread compression nuts for them?

I must have thrown tons of these away over the years as I've swapped old zone valves for new ones! I really don't know where you would get any from I'm afraid. Would it not be easier to just replace the valves with new ones? They are not that expensive and the existing ones must be a few years old now.

I see the sense of what you say, but I would still like to make at least one of the two valves potentially fittable. The Honeywell did not do much work before it was removed, and worked well during that time.

A new valve, at least a branded one, costs around £40 (retail), so the cost of one new nut should be worthwhile.

It is one of the nuts from the Honeywell that I have. I don't know what happened to the other.

The Drayton valve is a different kettle of fish. It stopped working - not the usual microswitch problem. It is very difficult to access, and is the older type with a non-detachable head. Being then less experienced than now, I called a plumber. He fitted a complete new one (OK), and left me with the old valve (OK). As this was a straight replacement job he used the old valve nuts, captive on the pipe. That was OK, too, but what is regrettable (politely speaking!) is that he took away the new nuts which had come with the new valve, saying "You won't need these". I did not realize at the time that they have a special thread!

I found the fault in the mechanism of this valve and fixed it. However, I would agree that it would not be wise to re-use it. But I would like to re-use the Honeywell, and for this I need just one new nut!

By the way, what is this special 18 tpi thread with the same outside diameter as 3/4" BSP? Like the normal BSP threads it has the Whitworth thread form (55 degree included angle, rounded off tips and valleys), but is not listed as either a plumbing or an engineering size. Is there a special fine series of BSP about which data is not, as far as I can tell, readily available?

I'll keep my fingers crossed - in Retford, Notts!

If you find some (up to three, if poss) I'll refund your postage if you post them - say, because we are too far apart for any other form of transfer.

If you need to do this, so need my address, please let me know. Many thanks for your offer of help!

By the way, having drawn a complete blank at Honeywell, I tried the "tech" guy at Drayton. They, at least, don't refuse to talk to non-plumbers! However, he was of no help: "We factor the valves in from abroad and the nuts come with them. We carry no spare parts".

The aftermarket has risen to the challenge, so to speak, on the microswitches and motors for these valves, but I can understand why there is insufficient interest to persuade anyone to source and stock the blessed nuts!
