Dear all, appreciate you expert help with the following: boiler didn't work , PCB, thermostat and immersion element have been replaced, boiler restarts but then locks in, the engineer advised fault wiring/connection in the system. He brought in a specialist electrician who advised that to have new roomostat installed, change wiring around the hot water tank/pump (incl valve that managed pump as the pump seems to work eve when the water is switched off) will cost 900£ (a day job as he said). That sounds a lot to me , could you opine please? Need urgent advice thank you!

also what credentials/certification do I have to request that the electrician shows me?

If the boiler locking out then its a boiler problem and nothing to do with any of the controls. Is it burner lock out or overheat??

the gas engineer is adamant that the boiler is fine now but there is an electrical problem somewhere in the system, the boiler ignites, fan starts working, green light lasts for few seconds turning into red flicking one and then red constant.

Sounds like water circulation or boiler stat. problem. A competent engineer should be able to isolate, programme, room stat, cylinder stat, etc. energize circulation pump and boiler and identify fault from there. If your engineer hasn't already done this get another engineer.

I'm not a gas engineer, but after dealing with heating controls for the last 20yrs I would still be looking at it being a boiler fault. If the boiler is firing then all the controls are working. Why was the immersion replaced...? This is an auxiliary heating element and not connected in any way to the heating control circuit. I think you need a better gas engineer.....

that sounds like that what he identified, how does cost of 900 to fix sounds and what documents he has to leave that would warranty his work?

it is a system boiler and I was told that while the tank has the emergency water heating option (which I use now temporarily for hot water) the whole system is connected ie the pump, tank and boiler.Boiler is Potterton Puma Supreme

£900 is a bit steep for a problem that doesn't exist. But if your willing to through money away that's up to you..... The controls only ask the boiler to fire and are in no way connected to the safety side of a boiler....

The problem is in the boiler, forum rules will not allow details, but use an engineer knowledgeable with Potterton flame supervision.
