Would really appreciate some advice.
I'm decorating my sitting room and am hopefully having the walls skimmed. The radiator is served by a flow and return pipe which come down from the ceiling and I want to cut these and replace them once the wall is skimmed. I drained down the system today in the hope of removing the radiator and potentially cutting the pipe: I assumed that if the heating isn't on at the moment, my combi boiler will still provide hot water.
When the water wouldn't get hot, I went to the boiler to hear the pump going and knowing the pipes were empty, swiftly turned off the whole boiler. I now realise that a combi boiler still needs water in the heating system to fire.
I refilled and bled the radiators and it seemed to be working okay. I decided just to remove the radiator but as I was in such a flap, didn't turn off one valve and this partially drained the system again. I had to top up and bleed again but water was getting hot.
The problem now is that the water is scorching - much hotter than it was before, and it seems to be running for slightly longer than usual (although that might just be my imagination as I'm not used to listening out for it). I'm guessing that while the pump is working, I've probably damaged it by running it dry (it was running for a good minute or two).
Any advice gratefully received!
