  Had to fit a new stopcock today the pipe was black MDPE 3/4 but the imperial olive just wouldnt go on! Tried grips grease tapping it on but no joy  In the end put on 22mm olive a dash of LSX and a couple of wraps of hated PTFE on top of the olive and a good crank.

But no drips! Turned water off checked olive which had bitten into the pipe and decided to use a insert as well all seemed good. What do you reckon members am I likely to be getting a call!

Funnily enough, we used black alkathene for underground and above surface mains before the blue mdpe came out. There where about 4 classes of it.
The one I am thinking about required a poly insert and a poly ring, which was like an ordinary ring.
I reckon providing you have got an insert in and its biting the plastic you should be okay.

Cheers Bernie wasnt nice turning the water on the street main is a good 800 yards away as on a big old house was walking into the kitchen pooing myself. But looked and felt all sound:D

Well thanks for that David, learning on every job I do and loving it. rally is satisfying getting jobs done especially when it all isnt straught forward and you have think about what the plan is.
