Sounds odd i know, I'm taking out a 3 year old Viessmann system and swapping it for a combi, i want to fit it in my garage with a couple of rads/cylinder/4 pipe it y plan/s plan and just mess about, i really want wiring and fault finding experience. I can run some trac pipe from the house over and a main to give it the basics but it might be a few weeks between me taking it off the wall and it running again...
Any tips?

Does it sound a crazy idea? i really fancy it :blush5:

Why not 4 pipe the viessmann with unvented in your own house for your continued benefit. You can play about with any old system boiler in the garage, Efficiency not a problem if you're just experimenting.

Aye, Just piped up an ATAG economiser 39 in my gaff about a week ago

I think it should be ok, i want to get the laddie to pipe it all up but i know fans and pumps don't like doing nothing for weeks.

Cant see a problem if its coming off a pretty clean system. Just make sure the pump has had a flush through and it should be good. I have test rigs set up across my garage for boilers, cookers, comm catering gear and controls set ups.

Probably should get out more!

It's a lot of space taken up in the garage... You could teach the lad more with a basic y plan set up on a test board & fit faulty bits to it to see if he can spot them?

I have space there, I need the practice too TBH. My old man aint going to be about forever and i need wiring and vertical flue experiance.

Is running some pipe over to the house and teeing into my system with some valves taking it too far?

+1 and much safer use bulbs as boiler and pump

might need a secondary meter for when the misses kicks you out :D

Why not convert it and run it on a couple of LPG cylinders, as its only for messing around with !!

Wire a y plan and put some switches into the wiring to make it cause a fault and practice finding it

On the other hand why bother, get plenty of practice out in the field, as long has you know the basics , every call is different
