Never again, I was that wet I had to dry myself before I got in the shower.

First tried to change the guts on the philmac fitting, no good.

Then went with the traditional leadlock. Got it in the end, don't know how because by the time I got it nipped up my hands were that cold they were burning. Just as well the jcb phone is waterproof and I left my galaxy note in the van.

Sorry to disappoint but no vid or pictures.

It was just crossing my mind about squishinh it with the mash hammer when the nut finally caught hold on the fitting.

What a buzz though :) :)

There is a fine line between brave and nutter, I sit on the fence quite nicely,

way too brave for me.

what made you do it live, thought i was hard when i i did two in a loft 2 years ago and i was soaked, Was it in someones house, You have got some balls alot of plumbers would of walked away even if they did the first time live most would not return to do twice

When you cut into a live 42mm main, THAT'S when you know you're alive. You can't see or breathe for the water hitting your face. And your elbows going like the privy door when mother plague's in town.

It was in a garage that's being converted, old lead pipe coming up in the end corner. Most of it was dry lined except for the corner with the pipe. The reason for the live work was that there was no stop tap and believe me I looked. The builder was out of his depth, a bit like me last night when I could feel the water going over the top of my knee pads. Like I said though, what a buzz.

I can imagine not being able to get near it. Visions of one of those skydiving machines with the big fans but with water instead.

The finest soaking I ever had was adding a chilled water coil to a VERY large centralized system. The gaffer gave us us a pair of percussive caps ( the ones you hit with a hammer & they explode! ) to tap into the main system. I possitioned the caps, made up a pair of tails, stuck a pair of iso's on, and WHACK............. blow the tial clean out! I had ethylene glycol at about 4 bar & 0*c spewing straight at me! That takes your breath, not to mention makes your bobhole twitch!!
