Leaking HOT water cylinder

HI and to you all for my first time

I have been to leaking Telford Indirect 117 litre HW cylinder. The leak although quite slight is from between the male thread coming out of the topmost coil connedction and the large nut on the cylinder.

Is it possible to drain the cylinder down back this nut off and reseal the thread or is the cylinder beyond repair?

I want to try and keep the cost down and stop the leak of course but what needs to be done needs to be done.

The hot water is a normal gravity fed system and the heating is a sealed system.

Is the leak from the hot water supply or the heating? Either way drain down and back the nut off, apply some jointing compound and do nut back up. Re fill and see if all is ok.

It is the hot water connection to the top connection to the coil

just to clarify the leak is coming from between the thread coming out of the cylinder between the 1" (i think) nut NOT the pipe connection to it - that seems to be ok

drain it off and have a good look if its the cylinder leaking a new one is required. If however its the seal for the male thread reseal and see. But when doing this be careful not to pull the pipe and deform the cylinder further.

from your description its the washer on the coil where it exits the cylinder if you can back the nut of and wrap ptfe tape behind it this often works you will only heed to drain the hot water
if you have the time i would soak it in wd a couple of hours before you start and then clean up the threads with a wire brush

I would drain the heating down in case it is from the coil connection and the hot water in case it is from the union.

I fixed a similar leak with a blob of Leak Sealant, similar to Fernox LS-X.

Bcked off the nut after draing down partially and resealed with PTFE and worked fine
