i have to change the location of 2 rads on an unvented hot water system that also has a hot water solar panel fitted. i will have to drain down i know. its in a modern house so should be no problem. its the re filling i`m unsure of.
Is there any probs i should be aware of. filling should be via a filling loop i think.
thanks for help.

When you say unvented hot water system this doesn't necessarily mean the heating side is pressurised. If it is you will have a red cylinder then its the filling loop.

If not then you would fill the heating system via the f + e tank in the loft as you would an open vented system

thought all unvented fill via a filling loop.
when i looked at the boiler didn`t actually see a filling loop but didn`t get a good look really.
If it is via a fiiling loop is it a straight forward as a combi and if its f&e tank can i use my usual bung and stop end.
thanks

Yes and yes

Unvented hotwater "cylinders" can be heated via open or sealed systems ........ If there's an f&e then yep, you can use the 'bungs'...... in case you were wondering you do not have to be 'unvented' qualified to work on the radiator side of the system ... :)

thanks.
yes i know i don`t have to be qualified, hope its got an f&e tank.
so either way its pretty straight forward.

the hot water side does not affect the draining of the heating, are you installing both rads?

Hi Paul how are you doing - just read some of your recent posts sound like your doing ok ?

Mike (ex VIY)

the heating side is seperate from the unvented hot water side, so you will be draining the heating not the hot water, and eitther filling via a filling loop or F&E tank the cylinder doesnt need to be drained.

Take some time to work out the job in your head before you begin, the thought of doing a job is usually more scarier than actually doing it....just don't rush into it and you'll be fine

if i have to work on the hot water pipework,am i right in thinking that all i have to do to isolate the supply is turn off the cold mains.
After turning boiler off, of course.
