2 years ago I had a Megaflo installed. Previously I had a water tank in the loft with a hot water cylinder on the 1st floor in the bathroom. The cylinder has been replaced with the Megaflo and the water tank is now redundant. However the supply pipe into my house was not upgraded (was the old lead one) and the internal run from the kitchen (is 15mm copper) which went up to the water tank in the loft has just has an attachment fitted on to it from where the water tank was to convert it to 22mm and runs back down to the megaflo from there.
I found out a few months later that this is a very bad configuration and it figured as they were a bunch of cowboys that put it in. Luckily pressure/flow wise I have kind of got away with it. I have very recently had the supply pipe from the street upgraded to the new 25mm poly, so this now runs into the kitchen (and has made a difference to the flow). My question/predicament is this..
I am about to have a loft conversion which will incorporate an en-suite bathroom. With this in mind I don't think it would be wise to have the 15mm internal run coming into the loft, back down to the megaflo and then back up to the loft for the bathroom there. I would prefer the run to go straight to the Megaflo If there will be multiple outlets being used in the house at the same time I envisage a problem perhaps? I have had 2 plumbers round who have each given me an option :-
1. Re-route the interal pipe directly to the Megaflo and upgrade it 22mm. This will be at great expense as there is no easy way to re-route it without tearing my house apart.
2. The other plumber says that I can just make a new run of 22mm into the loft from the kitchen (is a straightforward run to there), let it come back down to the megaflo and back up again. He says that it's not a big deal at all creating this 'loop' as the distance is small, I will be on 22m and the pressure/flow is good anyway.
Does anyone here have any thoughts/comments? Would be much appreciated.
