i have a client who is after getting hot water to his kitchen and bathroom directly above his kitchen. The house has no heating in but does have a cylinder and tank. Tank is in the the bathroom .. the whole house is REALLY old like not been touched for 40 years. there are some lead pipe work which he wants re-nuing.

so the question is .. is there such thing as a heater that will be able to provide upstairs and down with hot water? coming stright from the main supply under the sink maybe?

looking forward to hearing your suggetions

tom

why dont you just get him to av a new boiler you can get som good deals on boilers at the min with good package deals. and advise him that it would benifit it the long run install a heating system and hot water and remove any lead pipe. you can do this to a buget if need be and shop around

he could try an air source unvented hot water cylinder, looks a bit like a megaflow but has an 810 watt electric air surce heat pump on top to power it, so a lot cheaper to run than conventional water heaters and immersions.

Hi Himac
exactly what it says on the tin. instead of 2 seperate units
ie:- unvented cylinder in the house and air source heat pump outside the house.
This is a single unit, it all fits inside the house and it uses waste heat from a loft space to heat the water.

unguided1 thanks,I think I know what type of thing you are talking about now,I saw one in Spain at a expo.Do you they work ok in the UK????????
The one I saw had solar linked to it as well.hi

Hi himac
Ive installed a few of these cylinders now, and yes they definately work in the uk. When the temperature dropped down to -12 a couple of weeks ago I contacted my customers to make sure that everything was ok, and the cylinders coped with the low temps no problem at all.
you actually dont need to run solar panels for this type of cylinder as the ASHP will heat the tank cheaper than using a 3kw immersion or boiler primaries with no problems at all. But saying that If you can afford to install solar panels, then yes it will work and would help to make extremley cheap hot water.

Hi Plumb111
yes your right there. I have been fortunate, that the first couple of units I have installed were sourced by my customers before this I had never heard of them.
Now that I am a little more enlightend I am amazed at the varying prices and the varying quality of units, also some of the claims by manufacturers.
For some of us this brand new technology but by all accounts it has been around for years and is very popular in places like Sweden, Spain, France and Canada.
Also the way planning permissions are going, I believe that within the next ten years the market share for this type of equipment is going to go up and as more of it is installed the prices will come down

Hi Himac
The first customer that I installed one of these units for and the person who introduced them to me reckons that he has now got his hot water bill down to around 31 pence a day which means that his electric bill is going to be around £113 a year to heat his hot water I have now also been asked to install a solar panel for him which we will be doing in the next 6 weeks
Yes these units are expensive but then when you compare it to the list price of an equivelent sized megaflow they are in fact the same price the difference being that this unit is cheaper to run so in the long term will save you money.

Mike
