Hi

Ive got a client who wants central heating fitted in a coach house that has no gas supply, can anyone recommend a decent electric boiler? Its not a small place so I can't see much online that looks suitable, total heating load is around 22kw - 4 bed place with poor insulation, and then it has 3 bathrooms so a big unvented cylinder will go in so need to add 3 - 6 kw for that too.

Hmm. Their ongoing costs are going to be horrific and theyll be paying to oversize their htg requirements.
IMHO it would be good sense to seriously look at installing insulation where they can to minimise both their ownership costs as well as seriously reducing the size of boiler reqd. They'd win all round ;)
 
You'll need to consider the spare capacity of the existing electrical supply.
It might rule out an Electric boiler altogether.
Depending on the property location upgrading it could run into tens of thousands.

Haven’t had any trouble with the 2 I’ve fitted
 
EHC is what I use as but really only suitable for a small property as Dave has said the running costs are very expensive and I made sure the places were very well insulated , you may find they never modulate down , upgrade the insulation and personally I would look at lpg . Kop
 
running costs will be huge regardless of what fuel is used is used if the buildings insulation isn't sorted. I would go with a heat pump which if done proper will beat any LPG or oil by miles
 
As above insulation, draught proofing doors and windows anywhere heat can escape is vitally important, your load will be huge when added together with all other electrical appliances, electric panel type rads on a economy 10 tariff and a separate pressurised direct cylinder maybe a option, personally in the heart of winter I don't think the boiler would achieve the temperature required in the property of that size .
