Is it good practice what I'm planning to do. I want to drain the central heating and then put 2 isolating valves on the flow and return in readiness for when I purchase another radiator and that way after doing a little bit of pipework I can just top the system up. I want to drain now while the weather is warm and not do it when I'm freezing my nuts off.

I wouldn’t recommend the iso valves as there restrictive eg small bore either full bore or some lockshield gate valves
