    Diyers on plastic!!

My vote for the best game ever goes for Brutal Sports Football on the Amiga. What a great combination, a football game with random weapons you can pick up and kill the opposing team with such as shields, swords, bombs etc.

    Soldering commercial pipe sizes

Hi all. Just been to look at my first job working on a hotel. A leak on a 35mm hot water downpipe where it tees off to 28mm. I have actually never soldered anything larger than 28mm before to be honest. Is 35mm and larger soldered the same way, but just running the blowtorch around the...

Fitting rads to 50mm thick insulation boards.

Hi all. Been asked to fit some rads in a very old stone walled house. The plasterer has fitted 50mm insulation boards to the stone walls then dot and dabbed plasterboard on top. There is virtually no gap between the plasterboards and insulation boards. My question is - how the hell do I fit...

Does anyone else's heart sink when..

The customer wants a tiled floor, you pull out the existing chipboard flooring and find those god awful crap I-beam pre-manufactured joists they love to fit to new build houses these days. Joists are all rattling about in the hangers, oh I have a fun day today trying to get a floor together...

    Gas training with Able Skills

Ok, so I still have £2,000 left over from leaving the military to spend on further training that is at NVQ level 3 or equivalent. One of the things I can use this for is Gas Training. Able Skills in Nottingham is close to me and they are charging £2750 inc. VAT for their 15 day course to learn...

    570mm pipe centre radiators

Hi all. Proper spotter question this one. Anyone know where I can get a standard panel radiator with 570mm pipe centres? Thanks!

Been asked to convert existing gravity HW to fully pumped system.

Hi all. Usual thing, existing floor standing gas boiler is pumped for CH and running into a 28mm cylinder coil for DHW. I am planning on capping off the CH flow and return at the boiler and converting the system into a y-plan fully pumped system. Question for all. I realise the pipework is...

    I love cold callers!

They really brighten up my day at work. I used to get really annoyed by them but now I've discovered all sorts of fun you can have with them. Had a PPI company phone me up today telling me that I was entitled to compensation. Amazing really considering I've never taken out a loan with PPI in...

Narrowly missed a sore head today!

Was fixing a light in the kitchen the plasterer I've started using has done the ceiling in. He's fixed timbers to lower the ceiling, plasterboarded it then 2 coats of skim. Came in this morning and the clue should have been a little crack all the way across. Half way through fixing the light...

    Removing old flue through roof

Hi all. Never subcontracted in a roofer before as previous gas fitters have done this themselves. The new one I am working with doesn't so please can you guys in the know give me an idea of how long this job takes/rough costs? It's a standard tiled roof. This is the roof/flue in question...

    When work comes home

Eurgh. Just seen a water stain on the wall in our cloakroom behind the WC. New washer needed on the inlet to the fill valve. Of course being a new build house they have thrown it in and it's all inaccessible. Just out of the 2 year warranty too of course. I hate doing work at home.

Running shower waste to rainwater downpipe on combined drainage

Hi all. For cosmetic reasons I would like to run a 50mm shower waste pipe directly into a 68mm rainwater downpipe at first floor level. There is a stack on the opposite side to the downpipe but it will look messy running the shower waste pipe around the drainpipe to meet it. Moving the...

    Drainage/Soil/Rainwater Brands

Which one do you prefer to work with? Is it influenced by cost? Have been using Floplast all day today and have to say their drainage products are very poorly designed. Not impressed with them at all and certainly will be purposely avoiding their products once I've used up my existing stock...

Drainage Questions - Advice Needed Please.

Hi all, After some advice on a drainage job I am starting tomorrow. Done an inspection of the existing drains today and at the mini inspection chamber (300mm) at the head of the drain the top of the underground PVC pipe is 0.2m or so below the surface. We are replacing the old mini inspection...

    Bend It Now Pipe Benders

Just starting to buy up tools for our 2nd van early next year. Got one of these off advice on the forum. They are manufactured in the UK by the people who used to make Hilmor benders before they outsourced the manufacturing to the Far East. They cost me £49.99 including VAT and used them for...

    Decent Pipe Bender

OK. I have a 1 year old Rothenberger pipe bender. I've kept the formers and bending tracks nice and clean with wire wool. It is rippling occasionally on 15mm pipe and almost every time on 22mm pipe. I am about to throw it in the bin and get another one. Any recommendations for a good...

Installing new water mains to house

Hi all. Happy with the regulations for this but my question is, for a concrete screed, is it just a case of digging up what you need to both inside and out, fitting the service duct, running pipe in. Seal duct at both ends then relay concrete floor as required? What about the DPC?
