Changing this stopcock/fitting a new one above it

The pipe coming out the floor that you can't see is that old black plastic. And obviously not exactly accessible. The compression drain off looks, to me, like it might be one of those that had those coned olives in them? And I can't guarantee I'd get one off to re-use with a new bit of pipe...

At what age do plumbers peak?

Also how do check valves work

Do check valves work to prevent backfeeding on mixers with unequal pressures?

Once both feeds are open the double checks on the feeds are open. So how would the double check then prevent back feeding with unequal pressures. Seen this fix suggested a bunch of times, mainly for kitchen mixers or bath fillers as showers should have equal pressures normally. But don't get...

    Poss unusual heating question

I've a customer who really wanted a certain type of electric heater he'd read about (don't ask me what type, didn't really consider it my business.) So when he moved house he asked me to remove a couple of rads as he wanted electric heaters put in those rooms instead. I did that and he has since...

Nabis Lamone toilet from Wolseley...Any good?

Go-to bog was Ideal Standard Della from Screwfix but appears discontinued replaced by rimless version that everyone says is no good in the reviews. Navis Lamone from Wolseley looks reasonable from the one pic (and no dimensions given) on the site. Anyone fitted it? Looks reasonable? Not too...

If multiple mixer taps may be getting cold going back up the hot

Can you just put a non return valve on the hot under the combi where it comes out? Rather than put one on the hot pipe to each and every tap? Or is that no-no for some reason? Ta

Gumph between guttering and a water butt.

Probably done about 5 small guttering/downpipe repairs in over a decade. Usually just work out what bits I need from what's already there. But on this one she's not sure any of it is right to begin with. The hopper is meant to collect run off from guttering and divert to a water butt. But it...

Is there max lengths for external 15mm water pipework?

    For an outside tap. Cheers

Do I have an overly demanding flow switch(?) on boiler?

Caveat: I don't do boilers so no idea about them. My flow switch comment is pure guesswork based on zero understanding. If I turn my kitchen mixer tap on hot, fully on, cold fully off, about 75% of the time the combi fires up and produces hot water for a bit but will then cut out. I am not...

What is the neatest/most attractive shut off valve ok for CH?

I know cheap ISO's are no good. I hear the Radmaster (may have name wrong) iso valve's are ok'ish but they only go between the rad and the valve rather than on the pipe and at least one Toolstatio review claims they leak like the regular ones. Levers and gates are fine but bulky so no good...

Reducing tee from mdpe 20/25 to copper 15...

Can't find one online. Do they exist? Otherwise going to have to buy a hole roll of mdpe pipe just for a few inches to go between an equal tee and then a reducing coupler. Thanks

Anyone know where I can get a 3/8" toilet overflow blank/stopper?

Seems to be only 1/2" and 3/4" even on places like toiletspares.co.uk But they def exist as I've seen a couple. Amount of bogs I fix I'd quite like one on the van. But google comes up with nowt. Cheers

What are these sink wastes called?

The type with a twistable control that mounts on the surface? Can't find any googling around. Anyone know if the control nob hole is likely to be a universal size for a non like-for-like replacement? If not will just suggest a white sink hole stopper and a new strainer waste with circular...

Very old high level cistern refurb

Anyone had much luck putting new parts into a cistern like this? Ideally want to take out all the old rusy gumph inside and put in new syphon, inlet and high level chain pack but not sure if it will fit/work. Customer wants to keep the old cistern and paint the outside when done. Thanks

Chasing out wall for pipes, what do you do?

Heard someone recommend angle grind to channels the width you need then SDS with chisel bit to remove the middle. Is that a good idea? Thanks

    Would you change this toilet?

I'm thinking say yes, plan to just clean the rubber pan con seal, bit of plumbers mate on new pan waste spigot if it looks like it would help but inform customer no guarantees on how long it lasts and that if it doesn't it's tiles off due to the tiler making impossible to change pan con. Or...

Fluidmaster flush valves with the little handles

Can someone who has fitted a good number tell me what customer reaction is like? Anyone seemed unimpressed or unhappy about the little handle or do people generally like them? Thanks

Running CH pipes outside to a summer house

Obviously this can be done but what's the key things to do or not do? I'm guessing the feeds should be dug into a trench? Thanks

    Does grout sealer work?

Re-grouting my bathroom and takes me so long hoping to preserve the finished result. See you can get spray on grout sealer. Any idea if this actually works/anyone tried it? Thanks

Heating guys, what would you do next?

Customer has one rad not heating up, sort of tepid. Worked before, no work has been done in between. It's a combi. Rad in question has a TRV so changed the TRV to rule that out. Still tepid. Turned all the other rads in the house off at their TRV's and it got nice and hot. Left it like that...
