Shower dicking about, or is it the combi?F

Fitted a Bristan mixer shower for a customer (he supplied it but ran it past me first and I said it would work fine) on his combi. Worked fine when testing it. Later he said it wasn't firing up the boiler, when turned on, all taps were. I went back and removed the pre-fitted flow restrictor in...

Anyone wear gloves for ALL work and find it no hinderance?

Periodically get sick of constantly having half a dozen cuts of varying degrees on my hands. Every now and then put on some gloves, think "Hey this ain't bad." Then realise I want to press my finger into the corner of a compression joint nut to check for no weeps or something similar. Off come...

Do white towel rads kick out more heat than chrome?

Flomasta 1500 by 600 in white has 50% more heat output than the same in chrome. Never noticed this before.

22mm screwdriver type iso used as shut off on cylinder cold feed

Just bad practise or is there actually a reg that says this shouldn't be the case? I presumed they don't come full bore but have just checked and you can get them full bore. Can't remember from memory if it looked like one or not. Was done by British Gas. Thanks

Convert fluidmaster flush valve for use with euro flush pipes

Any ideas? They have a 1.5" outlet, too small for the Euro flush pipes. They come with a 1.5" to 2" adaptor so can fit in the cistern fine. You can use any drop valve with a 2" outlet but never found one I like half as much as the Fluidmaster. And as far as I'm aware you can't use a normal...

How do you remove these type of kitchen cabinets?

Need to remove a couple but leave rest undamaged and solid to install a dishwasher. They are on feet behind kickboard and the worktop isn't using them for any support. Should I be looking for dowels or whatever they are called? And how to they work? It's how they secure together I need to know...

    Shower diffuser...

Got voicemail from someone saying that had one that was broken or leaking and could I fit the new one. Never heard of them. Googled them and still not much the wiser. What's the deal with these?

Can someone recommend a good tool rucksack?

How do these things work/come apart?

Custard has one that appears to be leaking from the chrome threaded part, at the top. Possibly a hole in it/corroded through as it seeps out when you wipe it off. But is the chrome bit permanently joined onto the brass bit? Or do they sepaprate? And so if you want to remove it to investigate...

What does loads of green rusty textured stuff on copper mean?

Was shown an area previously hidden within a wall. Some of the copper pipes were clean as a whistle, others were covered in the green stuff. Some parts would have a dot of green here and there, others you couldn't see copper for the green, often covering sections a foot long. No drips or obvious...

    Removing an electric shower..

I have no elec quals, no elec knowledge, no elec experience. Most I've done is pipe one up that hadn't be wired up yet once years ago. Customer wants one removed as he doesn't use it. Is my best option to include cost of a spark in the quote to come along and remove/blank off wiring? And is...

Heat exchanger died on my watch today...

Was changing 3 rad valves on a combi in a flat. Create a vaccuum to avoid drain down, changed the valves, re-filled and then when I turned off the filling loop noticed the pressur guage kept creeping up. Checked filling loop wasn't passing. Even when detatched and with the house mains off (i was...

Tightened 2 basin mixers. Later text: No water from taps now...

That's bizarre, I said. Didn't even turn water off. I'd also done other stuff, bunged f+e to swap couple of rad valves etc but nothing on hot or cold. Was racking my brain how I could possibe have caused an airlock or something just by tightening taps. Went back, valves clearly long seized...

Any reason to extend f+e vent until submerged?

I'm guessing not. Looked like someone had put a compression coupler on it (it was already fine, terminating inside f+e) and stuck another bit of pipe almost reaching bottom of tank. What am I missing? Removed it.

Fixing a WC onto floor w/ under floor heating

Looked at a gutted cloakroom to quote for installing toilet and basin. At the time was just bare concrete floor. Soil pipe connection from previous toilet was roughly standard height (180 ish from floor). I thought they were going to tile it. Now he says they are having underfloor heating...
