Go on then I'll post in the proper sub forum I suppose.......... Fitted a bathroom suite a few weeks ago and I'm going back to do some other jobs in a week, toilet cistern (Homebase rubbish) dripped very slightly down the thread of one of the fixing bolts, enough to see a small patch on the...

    Quality toilet seat required

I have an elderly customer who just wants a decent wooden toilet seat that doesn't move around when sat on. They had a decent one before, an old one from the 80's and it was very well made but had split. They asked me to buy them one (which I hate) but I went to Homebase and bought a wooden one...

My Bosch Mulitmaster has packed up, for months now it kept going off while in use and had to be banged on the floor to resart it and now it wont start at all. Does anyone know if this is a known problem with them and how to fix it? I've had a quick look inside and didn't see anything obvious...

    Another copper/plastic thread

I feel I'm the only one using copper nowadays, all new houses are full of Polyplumb and alot of old boys are moving away from copper. Even though the price is rocketing and it takes longer to do I still prefer it over plastic, I fit bathrooms and do maintanence etc, if I fitted heating systems...

    Another bodged bathroom

I was in a newish bathroom today, the main problem was water dripping through the ceiling when the basin was used, the bathroom was put in a couple of years ago by a local guy. In the corner of the bathroom there is an inset basin set into a poorly tiled 'cube', no access panel and no way of...

Just wondered what you guys do when installing mixertaps regarding the non return valve/valves. Perticulary on unbalanced feeds in bathroom. I rarely come accross installations that have NRV's if at all.

    Electric showers

Just wanted to check on the regs regarding electric shower swaps, I'm not part-P yet but I'm still permited to swap like for like. Do you pressure test?

How many domestic plumbers on here actaully pressure test their new pipework after fitting. If a fitting failed and flooded a customers house, will the insurance pay up? Mind you there would be no proof that you didn't pressure test.

How do you get rid of an old bathroom suite?

Obviously all copper, brass, lead etc is weighed in and sold for beer money but what do you do with old toilets, dishwashers, baths etc,? my local tip is a fortune to use the weighbridge so I can't imagine many plumbers/builders use them. Do you leave it with the customer for them to get rid of?

    1/4 Turn Taps

Are all 1/4 turn taps of the ceramic disc variety? The one I've just looked at is a monoblock kitchen mixertap with 1/4 turn between open and closed and they are not only quite stiff (so much so that one of the plastic handles has rounded splines and wont turn the valve ) but have a 'plasticy'...
