    Baxi 80 Eco

Went to one the other day to service, noticed the hot water wasn't very hot. Didn't really have time to properly investigate but struggling to get more than about 8ltrs/min without it going tepid. B.P fine, not modulating or cutting out but heating flow didn't feel like it warmed up at all...

    pressure vessel pump

Unless anyone has any better options, i'm looking at getting one of the Regin pressure vessel pumps as the foot pump I use now doesn't have a long enough hose to use your foot with, so its a bit awkward. I use a digital tyre pressure gauge so not fussed about a built in pressure gauge. Anyone...

HOW TO: Replace an expansion vessel easily on a Worcester 28CDI

This has come up in a few threads so I thought I would give it a try and if it helps, make a quick how to for others to see. Ok, so the CDI range isn't known as one of the easiest boilers to work on, the expansion vessel is fitted by way of a large cable tie right in the back end of the...

    Todays unusual boiler

Went to a house today with an old vaillant ecomax in it, never seen one before. It's not the ecomax that the ecotec replaced, but an older version similar to a turbo ax vuw282/e in construction. Anyone seen one of these before? Unfortunately was fitted long before condensing boiler were...

    Flue of the day

H.A property, I struggle to see how this has never been picked up before, nice of them to put a flue guard on though. It is at face level as well so eye brow's removed when you walk out the door. I A.R'd it and suggested a new boiler and plume kit!

Potterton pro max fsb he, any ideas?

Had a call from a customer this morning for the above boiler. Locking out when first firing , after a couple of resets it's fine. I popped in to have a look on the way home and it was working perfectly annoyingly. She said it only seems to happen first thing in the morning or sometimes first...

    Worcester junior 28i greenstar

Just come back from a call out, intermittent heating and hot water. Boiler was serviced (not by me I may add) a few weeks ago. On arrival you could here the boiler struggling to stay lit on low flame, and go to reset after ramping up to try and stay lit. Checked the ratio with FGA, well...

Worst boiler to work on competition

As above, whats the worse part/boiler you've had to work on and why? (no detail into gas safety as it's in the wrong forum!) personally for me, after today i'm voting Worcester CDI expansion vessel. Wasn't much left in it once I got the old one out, fan, heat ex, plate hex, pump, APS etc all...

    Co ratio gas fire

Have been doing some servicing and safety checks for a HA over the last few weeks, mainly boilers and cookers so all good. Had one yesterday with a gas fire and didn't think anything of it until the system we use asked for a flue analysis and then i realised I've never used a FGA on a gas fire...

    Gravity circulation idea

Possibly the wrong section for this as it has very little to do with solid fuel, but as gravity circulation plays a big role in the idea I thought the solid fuel section may be more appropriate. I've got an idea for a problem and I can't for the life of me figure out if it will work or not...

Testing a pump with a multi meter

Hi Lads, Got a chance to do some contract breakdown work and just been trying to remember all the stuff I used to do has made me realise i've forgotten a bit! All the new stuff i've learnt must have pushed the old stuff out my ears! How do you test a pump with a multimeter to confirm it's...

    Worcester 28i (band D)

Just a quick one, went to a boiler today, intermittent fault water goes cold hot cold. Looks like the board is knackered as if you push the front or back panel and flex the board it clicks on and off as per the suggested fault. Checked all connections and earth strap all looking fine, just...

    Gas safe inspection just cancelled

Just had a call from gas safe to say my inspection that was booked in for tomorrow has to be cancelled due to a fatal incident that he needs to attend... Keep an eye out on the news, doesn't sound to good does it, feel sorry for who ever it involves and their family.

    Ecotec 831 inlet pressure drop

I've got my gas safe inspection on thursday and because i've just started business again, i've not got much to show the inspector. I'f got a service booked in and I was going to go over my boiler at home. Most people are aware that new boilers suffer a drop across the gas valve, but I cannot...

Wanted Sub-contractors / occasional work all tradesStarted by Baggs, 2 Days Ago Anyone been interested in this? I did send an email and was querying the response as I am not sure how legit it all is, just wondered if anyone else had done the same and what they thought? Sam

Making a diy decarbonizing heater for my bbq gear??

Why not wait until you rip a cylinder out and cut the top off it? Immersion will be ok on a plug top just about, just make sure you use the correct size cable. Seems an expensive way to wash the dishes though!

    Which boilers to use?

I've been out of the gas side of things for a while doing mostly doing contract work so now the time has come for me to earn a living by myself again, i'm wondering which boilers to spec for my own customers? I like vaillants but i've heard their after care has gone a bit ropey and they are...

MCS & heat pump heat loss calculations

Looking through the guidance notes it seems you now have to provide the customer with a room by room heat loss calculation as part of the survey pack. How do the more experienced heat pump installers do this and how long does it take you? I'm looking at using the CIBSE domestic heating design...
