Help required to identify this water heater installation

This photo was taken at at central London office block where there are two staff kitchen areas with identical plumbing layouts - and problems. Both the hot sides of the monobloc kitchen taps are leaking above the worktop surface when the tap is turned on, and they drip when the heater is heating...

Which flue gas analyser to buy?

I need to buy a flue gas analyser pretty damn quick and am seeking advice on which ones offer the best value, and which ones to avoid (if any)? I'd like one with either a built-in gas leak detector or can take it as a plug-in. I don't currently do a lot of servicing although it is an area I want...

Opinions from anyone who's fitted the Biasi Inovia 25C combi appreciated

My local supplier is pushing the 25, 30 or 35KW versions of this combi boiler with a 5-year guarantee. Just wondered if anyone has had any particular good or bad experiences with this model, as some of the reviews of other Biasi boilers online have not been too favourable. Cheers.

Any trade places that buy old boilers?

Is there anywhere to sell old boilers that are removed from customers' houses? Presumably these places that sell recon parts have to break old boilers down for new material? I'm in the Luton area.

    'Openable window or vent'

When manufacturers instructions refer to additional ventilation for a flueless catalytic gas fire installation, can a patio door that opens be classed as an openable window or vent?

    Potterton Mini Minder replacement advice

I have a disabled customer who needs his old Potterton Mini Minder programmer changed as he has trouble sliding the switches. Can anyone recommend a very economic and simple-to-use replacement which would fit the same backplate?

Hot water getting too hot on a Ferroli Optima 700

A chippy mate of mine has just called me to say that the hot water coming out of his Ferroli Optima 700 combi is getting way too hot. The flow rate seems normal and he has even increased the mains pressure to see if that would help, but it hasn't. I haven't looked at it yet, so am looking for...

    Conventional flue combi boilers?

Can you get them? A customer wants to replace an old floor-standing Ideal Mexico boiler that's in a hallway cupboard and change over to a combi system. It's a flat with concrete floors, so moving the boiler location to an outside wall is going to be an expensive job.

    Modern condensing boilers and microbore

Are they reasonably compatible? I had a look at a job today where a new combi system is required to replace the existing hot and cold storage. It's a third floor 3-bed flat where all the 8mm and 10mm microbore CH pipes are buried in screed. The custie wants a few rads moved, so I'm more inclined...

Is power flushing the new drain jetting?

One of the most striking changes I've noticed since returning from my 14-year exile from the trade is the advent of power flushing. I'm not sure if it's just a gimmick or even a means of extracting money from customers for work they don't really need, such as many cases of drain jetting. It...

Running a new gas pipe from meter to kitchen advice

It's about a 15 metre straight run under a wooden floor from the meter at the front of the house to the kitchen at the back. There is a massive void under the floor joists (can even climb down and work underneath them) so I was thinking of clipping the 22mm copper pipe to the bottom of the...

Just received my Gas Safe card - now what do I do with it?

Hi all, I returned to the plumbing trade after a 14-year absence last September (I was a plumber for ten years before changing careers in 1997). It took me a while to feel my way back in again as the trade seems to have changed so much, and I've been working alone for myself pretty much the...
