    Anti vermin outlet.

Feel a bit sorry for one of my neighbours, youngish family that have been flooded twice with flooring ruined both times because rat(s) got in through the washing machine outlet and burrowed through pipe to get to the ktichen. I got involved and despite my experience the fecker took an age to...

18mm cement board for bathroom flooring?

Third time I'll be doing this floor...first time was weatherproof TnG, 2nd was marine ply both of which were varnished and blew up because of a combination of flooding and careless use. Hardibacker is easy to get from sheds but only in 12 & 6mm which I could overlay. Any other recommendations?

    Commercial or Domestic plumber required?

Shouldn't he be able to work on a domestic rated appliance even though it's on commercially rated supply though?

    Commercial or Domestic plumber required?

Your plumber is correct and it really isn't a grey area. It doesn't matter on the application it's the boiler size rating that matters in terms of defintion between commercial and domestic classification. Just as say he'd be fine working on an under 70kw boiler supplying a hairdressers with...

Anybody replaced a Cat G boiler recently?

I was paying particular attention to a British Gas radio ad the other day where certain efficiency and cost saving claims where being made. Oh and there it is, a disclaimer at the end of the ad said in rapid fashion that the savings claimed were based on a Band G boiler or less than 70%...

The buyers pulled out of the sale because of that, really? Nothing that a plumber in a day couldn't sort.

I've called Transco and tightened it till it no longer leaks but that renders the valve unusable but what is the usual fix, is it usually a servicable item?

    Best chemical sink unblocker?

Which make is fairly foolproof? I tend to almost always go down the mechanical unblocking route but I want to leave a few bottles for a few tenants (not mine).

Can a new oil tank install be DIYed?

Highly likely the old tank was simply replaced because it was leaking, assuming it was dug out the disturbed and contaiminated soil could also account the persistant but diminishing smell.

Can a new oil tank install be DIYed?

Tell relative to note date, time and duration of smell. If they have a complaint to make then make it or at least ask the neighbour first.

    Get expert in or DIY

Isolation valve = attempted DIY. No isolation valve = probably do not attempt DIY. If you need to ask what tools you need = get a PRO in.

    Washing Machine Blues

Neve seen it before but this happened to mine over Xmas, a 6 year old £1000 Siemens front loading washing machine that disintegrated and I couldn't get parts for. Before that my old Hotpoint lasted 17years. Tell the old lady to stop doing the washing at 30 degrees and give it an empty hot water...

    Recommend me a boiler

We've not had one of these for a while, what are we installing nowadays and why? Viessmann Vaillant ecotec I prefer German and a stainless hex if at all possible over and above the temptation of super extended warranties. Simples...if the systems are kept clean, they tend to last.
