    10 year warranty on Ravenheat

Didn't take notes but would be the usual suspects.

    10 year warranty on Ravenheat

Went to his training course recently and was quite impressed with his boiler. For such a low price, you get all brass components inside, copper tube to EV, stainless steel HEX, easy access, no sharp edges, easy to hang. I'd chose that over WB any time. You pay top money for some brands and get...

    Condensate pipe termination

better stick it in an open waste pipe then, no blockage :)

    Condensate pipe termination

Getting confused with how to route and terminate condensate pipes. My gas manual shows a diagram with the condensate pipe connected upstream of a washbasin trap. Baxi's manual does "not recommend", in caps, to connect upstream of the sink and its diagram shows the connection downstream of the...

    What makes a great boiler?

Funny how we keep using less electricity and gas but we keep paying more.

    What makes a great boiler?

Yep, don't like Alphas too just for this reason. Also plastic hydraulic block but otherwise nice stainless steel hex.

    What makes a great boiler?

WB = Ford? HA HA. I don't think they'll be too happy to hear that!

    What makes a great boiler?

Quite like Baxi too. They pay a lot of attention to the small details. No silly thing like changing the seal every time you open the hex. Plenty of space to work, easy access. Biasi is underrated as well. You get a stainless steel hex for this price.

    What makes a great boiler?

Reliability is quite subjective isn't it? It's shaped by your experience mostly. For e.g. some swear by Ideal, others not at all... Can we have a few names of reliable boilers?

    What makes a great boiler?

A little survey of what feature you guys think makes a gas boiler stand out from the rest. Is it: brand (WB anyone?) flow rate hex material no Plate hex (intergas, Ferroli) efficiency (93.47% better than 93.43%) price anything else To me it's the modulation factor. No point having a 100%...

    Heat only boilers and confusion

I don't do "just" combis. I'm a newbie and as combis are by far the most popular type of boilers, I haven't come across the other types yet. I'm not ruling them out, which is why I'm trying to learn about them. And I wouldn't install one of these by myself in the beginning. However, I've heard...

    Heat only boilers and confusion

Nice one Last Plumber, thanks. Clearly, I haven't served any apprenticeship and I'm no plumber. I do gas but as this includes heating, I thought I'd better get to grips with this. I deal with combis and haven't come across situations like here yet.

    Heat only boilers and confusion

Can't you have an open-vented cylinder with a system boiler?

    Heat only boilers and confusion

This problem would apply to all 3 types of boilers.

    Heat only boilers and confusion

In what way is a system boiler dependant on mains pressure? If you fit a vented cylinder, no problem? May only be an issue if mains pressure is < 1bar; you can't pressurise your heating system then?

    Heat only boilers and confusion

But there's no DHW in heat only boilers, and especially no pressure in this context? It's just the hot water for heating running through the hot water cylinder instead of a rad... Whatever pressure you have in your rads will be the same running through the cylinder?

    Heat only boilers and confusion

Trying to get to grips with all the terminology here and what can be done with what. Heat only = open vent boiler? I suppose nothing stops me from sealing it up and sticking an expansion vessel to it? This is the same as a system boiler then? Is it cheaper then to buy a system boiler instead of...

Supporting pipes under floorboards + insulation

Try adding way more when screwing the clips under the joists! Not easy. You could use straight 3m of plastic pipes. Easier to work with and not much more expensive, though if you need long runs, you'll need to join them which defeats a little the advantage of using plastic. Shouldn't your...
