    Thanks. Got someone coming tomorrow as part of my home emergency cover. Having said that it's been lit and heating the water for the past 24 hours now! Hope the engineer can see past that and find the fault.

    Update: can now tell pump is running by listening carefully. I had my wife hold down the gas valve button for ages and I turned the hot water on and it's stayed on for 5 mins so far which is the longest we've managed to keep it on for so far.

    Pump appears to be on, but can't tell if it's running. It's a grundfos ups3 (manual attached) and it is showing a green light for I, and orange lights for II and III. I must confess I don't know what colours these lights are normally.

    Me again. The pilot light whilst still on, can't have been the root cause Still no hit water after having it on for 4 hours. Any ideas please or Is it gas engineer time?
