    Ground Water Leak Detection

Only posting this in the private forums as it's not very interesting to the general public... My brother called me today in a panic as he was knee deep in a cellar with water bleeding out the walls and seeping from the floor. Said cellar is about 14' below ground level and the water is fresh...

What Students Of Today Think Of Us Plumbers

I know I don't need to explain to you lot that I did the full old fashioned/traditional plumbing apprenticeship under the guidance of a proper old timer which involved a lot of science and mathematics to gain my nationally recognised qualifications of which I'm very proud and also entitle me to...

This Intergas Combi A Good Deal?

My brother is after a combi and asked me to look around for him. He's leaning towards either Intergas or Vaillant, Intergas being his first choice but thinks their prices might be beyond his budget of £800-£900. Found this one but seeing as I've not fitted boilers in years I've kind of lost...

    Water not draining, I'm stumped.

What happened to the 'Hall of Shame'? Is it still around? Anyway this is one of the best I've seen, even better than that rad going up the stairs which you'll all remember.

    Finishing Bathroom Job

Got asked to up tools and leave a full bathroom install the other day by a fella who's now begging me to come back and finish the job having admitted he caved in to his missus' moaning that the job wasn't done yesteryear. My brother has said there's no way on earth we should go back and that...

    One rad to install Liverpool

Too busy to fit this job in for a reputable builder friend of mine. It's in the Bootle area of Liverpool and needs doing yesterday. If you can do it before Saturday 15th (which is the earliest time I'm available) then let me know. Excellent money waiting, parts and fittings already there...

Anyone else live in their work clothes?

Today I turned up at a job only to be told the gear hadn't turned up. That was 10am, it's now almost 11pm and I'm still in my work clothes. Been the pub and everything and now browsing this forum. Anyone else live in their work gear or is it just me being a scruff?

B&Q Looking For GSR's To Do Boiler Swaps

Not sure if this is already being talked about elsewhere on forums but anyway... I was in B&Q earlier (yes, I know) and one of the staff came up to me, "because I looked like a plumber" and began whispering about how they're struggling to find any takers for their new boiler swap scheme or...

Anyone got a piece of 1/2" & 3/4" Copper Pipe?

Need a short length of 1/2" and 3/4" copper pipe, 6 inches each would do. I just want them to play with trying various fittings because every time the 'imperial question' arises I have to argue with myself over which is smaller, which is bigger, what fits, what doesn't etc. Call it physical...

    Plastic Pipe Inserts

Haven't had much experience with plastic pipe apart from the occasional JG Speedfit fitting. I'm off to get a few supplies and want to get a few 15mm pipe inserts. Do JG ones work in any plastic pipe or do I need to get a load of various ones? It's not for any particular job I'm doing, just...

This is why we will not endorse DIY gas work!

So he reduced the height of two redundant gas pipes and accidently punctured a different pipe?

This is why we will not endorse DIY gas work!

Let's say we had a house which was ready for demolition. The gas carcass has been disconnected from the meter and all gas appliances. Who can rip the scrap pipework out?

This is why we will not endorse DIY gas work!

Well if it's not connected to a gas supply it's not a gas pipe.
