Replace shower head and hose? Possible ?

Got a bath which is just over 10 years old and the shower head needs replacing. This photo shows the layout. I appreciate that access will be required to do this and could be achieved from the adjacent room by cutting a hole in the wall. I’m not sure what I would then see and in...

Trying to balance our radiators ..........

Now its got cold again I'm having another attempt to get our system re-balanced and have found this "lockshield": Presumably all I need is an allen key to adjust it? Also, using my new infra red thermometer, this rad is getting a lot hotter than most of the others in the house - is this...

One of my mates has what I think is a 2 zone heating system plus a water tank This photo shows the pipework : There is a room stat in the hall for the radiators and a room stat in the kitchen (which is where the only underfloor heating is) They don't seem to be able to run the underfloor...

    Condense pipe frozen?

My mother in laws boiler has packed up ... A friend of hers has suggested that the condense pipe might be frozen. Would this stop the boiler working? And if this is the case how can it be prevented in the future as she is in her 80's Thanks

Do we need a filter on our in coming mains

we completely refurbished our house 4 . 5 years ago. All the taps have ceramic fittings and they are all needing replacing. A local plumber has suggested adding a filter to the incoming mains. Is this worth doing? I don't mind spending the money if it will prolong the life of all our traps...

1 new radiator not getting hot!

Pretty much as the title says - we had an extension built which has 6 radiators in it. 1 isn't fitted as its in the shower room which isn't fitted out 4 work really well 1 doesn't get very warm So I've tried: 1. Bleeding the radiator in question - there is water in it. 2. Check the...

    Depth of incoming water main

Guys Could do with some guidance. Our incoming main has sprung a large leak (we are not on a meter fortunately) and I've got a builder mate doing the ground work for the plumber doing the new pipe etc. The existing gas, water and BT cables all run in the same "route" and they are only about...

    Unusual Radiator Sizes

OK, still on the hunt for information guys so please help. The house we are renovating (for ourselves) has a kitchen where siting traditionally sized radiators could be tricky so taller units are under consideration. Could you please point me in the direction of manufacturers and /or websites...

    Radiator sizing

Ok, I am not a plumber and do not touch anything involving water (unless its a kettle) or gas. We are having a bathroom refitted and want a nice new shiny chrome radiator. The room is about 2.4 x 1.4 x 2.4 metres high. Lots of the better looking radiators appear to have very high BTU's - is it...

    Constantly getting air in radiators

Hi All, I'm a sparky and have dropped in from the "other" side to ask what may appear to be a daft question! In recent years I've had to bleed two of our radaitors occassionally to get rid of air, but since I've turned our heating on this autumn, the bleeding has been required every few days or...
