Is it possible to 'repair' a Hep2O (Wavin) UFH flow control?

After balancing the flows, one of these blighters has started to drip very slowly from under the red cap. It feels loose to turn, so I suspect the seal around the spindle is to blame. It won't be 'worn' as such, as they don't get fiddled with for years, but this tiny adjustment was seemingly...

Can a new oil tank install be DIYed?

Thanks everyone. I don't suspect a current leak, but was sometimes aware of the smell during the installation phase. Looks as tho' it can be DIYed, but it should have Building Control oversight and sign-off afterwards, just like with many normal building jobs (structural, etc). Thanks.

Can a new oil tank install be DIYed?

Ok, I think I found the answer. Yes, it can be DIYed, but should have Building Control certification afterwards. Anyone know how to check whether this has been done - will it be part of the online planning portal, or does a request need to be made to Build Control?

Can a new oil tank install be DIYed?

Hi. Asking for a relative whose neighbour seemingly DIYed an oil tank replacement. She was aware of 'oil' smells at regular times in the weeks following this, although that has since died down. Is there a way of checking whether the installation was registered, a bit like boiler installs? Thanks.

Can I have a plume kit fitted to my 15-year old Glowworm CXi?

Hello everyone. The flue from my glowworm CXi boiler sticks out the side wall of our house in front of the kitchen window. It's around a metre away so isn't a safety issue, but it's a bit annoying all the same as it's directly in the line of sight. A bit of research suggests that a 'plume...

    Honeywell 2-port valve V4043H & 272848/U - identical?

Jus hoping for confirmation that these two model numbers are identical in every way? Most adverts show both numbers, but a few have them listed exclusively as one or the other... They are the same? The 272848/U is Normally Closed too? Many thanks.

Details on fitting a remote oil delivery pipe.

Hello again. Anyone on here familiar with the installation of remote filling pipes for domestic oil tanks? We are trying to figure out ways of getting a delivery from the front of a cottage to the rear without going through the property. One possibility - still apparently being explored by the...

Plastic coated 10mm copper tubing - how tight a radius?

Hi. I'm looking to run a rad supply using 10mm plastic-coated copper pipe and, as it'll be under a laminate floor, to use as few actual fittings as possible. How tight a radius can it be bent without using a pipe bending tool or former - ie hand-bend? This is standard pipe, 0.7mm wall thickness...

How to run rad pipes through 80 Celotex?

Hi again. Builder will soon be laying the floor in our new extension. It's currently a concrete slab and he's going to lay a thin (a few mm) of sand on this to level out any imperfections, lay 80mm insulation (I guess will be 'Celotex' type stuff) and then chipboard flooring on top. I need to...

GlowWorm 30 CXi gas test cap has fallen apart.

Hi everyone. When I looked in the cupboard where our gas combi boiler is installed, I found a wee white plastic cap which had pretty much disintegrated. A search found it was the cap that's meant to seal off the flue test point - from which a nice breeze from outside was ensuing. As it...

    Delivery access to oil tank.

Hi everyone. This is to do with a house not yet bought; the oil access issue may well be a deal-breaker. The house in question has its oil tank in the back garden. Oil deliveries have historically been made via the integral garage which has a door at the back which leads into an extension...

Are oil boilers suitable for smaller properties - eg an annexe?

Hello all. We will likely have to move soon so we can find a new home which has room to have a separate annexe built for mum in law. As it'll be out in the sticks, the fuel supply will most likely be oil. A few questions on this, please: 1) Do they make small oil boilers - ideally combi types...

Any way to 'actively' test whether gas flow is adequate?

Bro has a system boiler which he'd like to replace with a combi. He's on the 5th floor of a building and the gas metres are at ground level. The gas pipe route seems to be up the outside of the building for most of its way, then comes in and travels up to a 'room' on the roof where the system...

Any plumbers on here covering London W2?

To add a couple of pumps to a flat to boost mains and gravity flows. Or, ideally, to go for a fully pressurised system involving a Challis CB+240 or S-T Flomate MBF 300 supplying a new unvented cylinder. Access to space is good for both solutions (dedicated timber 'shed' with mains power on...

Do unvented cylinders require a 'gravity' drain?

Hi again. Exploring options for my bro's flat. One is to convert to a pressurised system. The preferred location for the new unvented cylinder would be where the current vented one is in his airing cupboard. Problem is, it would be tricky to get a gravity drain from this to the outside (he had...

Boosting mains pressure - suck or blow?

Hi. I've been looking for info from websites of various manufacturers of mains booster pumps - Salamander, S-T and Grundfos, etc - and also that of some 'specialist' suppliers like 'pumpexpress.co'. I'm trying to get a definitive answer to; "Can you suck as well as you can push'? Ie, how much...

Using a mains booster pump/store and cold kitchen tap.

Hello. Trying to work out options for my bro's top-floor flat which has truly pants mains pressure and flow. I estimate it (not actually measured, but from my recollection) to be something like 5lpm and well under 1 bar pressure - the kitchen cold is a 'fast trickle' at best, and the CWS takes...
