Hi. Got a problem at my good customer's - The Red Lion - again.

The boiler, an Ideal Viceroy on class D fuel is going into lockout. Checked all the usual things - airflow, fuel pump, fan, nozzles and filters, fuel supply.

It is curious but the burner is one of those 2 stage burners and the first stage nozzle doesn't lockout, just the second when it kicks in. I have set the burner to run on the first stage only for the time being but it is at much reduced power like this.

It also seems to be worst in the morning (when the guests and the kitchens are using lots of hot water).

Anyone got any suggestions as it has me stumped?

air damper motor.
stage one apparently working allowing correct air fuel mix in
stage 2 either damper jammed, they get rusty and refuse to move in casing or damper motor itself has just died, which model of nuway is it ?

its happening at peak demand cos thats when the burner is under most demand and going for stage 2

stick your fga in the flue, if stage one reads ok for co then stage2 hits 5000ppm before lockout, guaranteed thats the problem

good luck

Got to the bottom of it by good old fashoined detective work, looking at everything step by step.

Possibly a number of things

1, Electrician had recently replaced the light fitting in the boiler house and appears to have bent the bracket that a pulley for the wire holding the fusible link runs over, resulting that the gravity toggle on the valve was almost closed and thus restricting the flow of the fuel from the tank outside.

2, Removed all the pipes and tubes and found a lump of debris in the pipe to the second stage nozzle. All cleaned out now.

Everything works perfectly again!
