Got a call today by a customer who says that his 2 year old Ariston 32 Genus has been Id'd as damaged by frost at a rental property. Only noticed when a new tenant moved in this week. Previous tenant never mentioned it! He wants me to price up to replace. Plan to give rough estimate for straight swop and flush and if he's happy can visit to check if there are any issues and modify price if required.

Does this sound right though! Has anyone else heard of this frost damage before. It's obviously more than the usual condensate issues. I guess if there was no gas, then frost protection maybe didn't kick in? What parts are likely to be damaged so bad it is cheaper to change the whole boiler?

any ideas please?

when condensing pipes block, it should normally trip the boiler off unless the earth to the trap had been disconected..

what about the heatexchanger cracking with the cold ? if the boilers outside and been left off over winter if the property was empty ?

microgenus he.... band b boiler has a recuparator it would back up into this and kill the fan first then maybe run out of the front cover into the pcb

thanks for the ideas so far - more info....

its fitted under the stairs in hall. Property was apparantly occupied and apparantly passed its annual safety cert in March?! ie after worst weather finished. If the cert was done properly!

it would have to be working to pass, this boiler wont if frost damaged
