Ive got a job on tomorrow to fix a 3 port,
It's already had 2 new heads on the valve and needs a new one,
Would you fit a new head or whole new valve? Just wondering what everyone else would do?

Theres 3 gate valves and a pump valve that I can isolate the water by so no need to drain although the header tanks just above the valve anyway

Carefull with the gate valves. If they are the cheap ones if may take longer to replace them, than the motorised valve.

Whole valve as its already had 2 heads probably tells you something , bung it instead of risking using the gatevalves

I might just drain down past the valve instead of risking the gate valves

Change the whole valve, I'd probably risk the isolators then regret it when they jam shut :(.

Whole valve, I'd suspect the spindle is stiff & killed the old ones... Check the pipework of your changing it because of rads getting hot on hot water etc...

I had a quick look at the pipe work it all looks fine, nothing jumped out, I'm fairly confident in saying that the valves jammed/stiff hence why the CH is on with hot water, I'm fairly certain that the systems sludged up aswell

Whole valve, use bungs. Did two zone valves and a diverter today without draining or using carp gate valves.

I just drained the header tank and tied the ball valve up, and stuck a wet vac on the air bleed for the last little bit

For anyone who's interested this was the fault as I suspected, stiff spindle killed the motors off valve was seized solid in the mid position

Thanks Plumben, its always nice to hear how things work out. Not enough threads get there proper conclusion.
