Hi guys.

Is there a way of repairing 3 way port valves if the problem is that it is passing heat into the heating and HW coil heat exchanger at the same time regardless of which setting its on (i.e heating on but HW off and vice versa) and never sealing one or the other?

or is it a case of buy a new one OR take out, clean it out put back and hope for the best?

Its probably a bit of s**t stuck in the way and not letting it seal properly but i havent seen this job yet so i cant say for sure if thats the problem.

just thought id see if any one on here had any ideas or had had similar problems etc.

Cheers guys.

Ther are 2 types one with a valve that turns holes and another with a paddle that just closes one out let other or stops in the middle to feed both that can break off or just stick . Either way by the time you have removed it to check and maybe unsieze the spindle you may as well replace it for long term reliablity

Agree with torsionbar. Replace it! You will then have a good reliable valve for a good number of years provided you fit a good quality replacement. I use the ones sold by Mr H Well purveyors of fine equipment.

cheers fellas, i was also thinking of just replacing it but just wondered if there was anything else that would have been cost effective in repairing it lol,

thanks once again,

Has the motor failed? So long as you know what your doing regarding electrics. Check if the motor is working it may have failed mid position.

Dead testing is probably best if you are unsure about electric. Get a multi meter set on Ohms and try the motor leads, should register open circuit if gone.

You can also buy kits for doing the valves up. The motors are syncron and usually cost about £10 -£15, Not sure about cost of kits for renewing body parts.

Get number of valve and Google it.

It may just need an overhaul. If its for yourself it may be worth doing, but for a customer its probably best fit a new valve and avoid any come backs.

yeah its for a customer, i havent come across many port valves having problems, in fact i think i have only ever done 3 jobs which involved port valves replacing and that was back when i was a tea pig for the boss so i didnt really get a good look in at it lol.
