Thanks for welcome to Plumbing forum
HELP.replacing old shower with outlet within 3 meter limit for 40mm
new one has outlet an extra 500mm away
there is no way to reroute
is air admittance a solution and how do you fit

any help would be a life saver Mike

Ahh! I new my research would come in useful one day, have a look at a hepworth hepvo its a one way waste but there is no trap.

An AAV would also do but needs to be fitted above the spill level which may not look very pretty.:D

I use Hep Vo traps a lot. They are great,,,but in my merchants I order them under their nick name as "Fanny Trap".

Look in the end and you can see why!!!

:D:D:D I thought that as soon as I saw them and thought, well well, here we go:eek::eek::eek:

Old diy'er, can you be more specific as to your question, personally I dont know what it is you're asking.

A HepVo on a shower will soon start letting smells through and need routine cleaning, hairs get caught and attract other particals and they stop the membrene from closing. :(

Phil, plumbers tell me that if i have more than 3 mtr length on 40 mm shower run i could get siphoning problems with trap
I am stuck with 3.5mtr length and cannot re route pipe
any other suggestions other than secret squirrel,s suggestion :)

use 50mm waste

stevetheplumber, sounds like a good idea to use 50mm pipe but soil pipe is old marley with a 40mm boss and o ring
could this be cut off and 50mm boss fitted

take it u mean a strap-on boss then. You might be able to chip it off then drill out for a larger one, depends how well the solvent has bonded.

hep V o traps are good, but as said you need access to them for maintainence

possibly the old boss would come out but wouldnt be the end of the world it you run the waste in 50mm to the stack to stop syphonage and at the end went back to 40mm to enter the stack use a level invert reducer rather than a steped one and fit a clearing eye close to it not perfect but sometimes better to have something that works

I have checked out the idea of 50mm pipe but would not be able to have it under floor would not get min slope.
Could i run this idea past you
Airing cupboard behind one side of shower
Could i run 40mm horizontally teed off next to trap for approx 400mm then vertically in cupboard for required amount with AAV fitted on top

THANKS for all the good ideas from everybody

Hi. With shower trays and baths the slow discharge over the last say 10seconds of draining reseal the trap. Although i comply with soil and wate codes of practice, there are times when, in your case an increase of 15 percent in length is probably within the margins built in to the codes when models were used to determine length etc. Good Luck

Thanks to you all for all the alternatives you have supplied to my problem.
I had not expected so many diverse suggestions.
There seems to be a lot clever plumbers out there.

Thanks again
Mike

Totaly agree with this, to be fair you could probably run alot longer length than 3.5m without a problem, the textbooks are good, but in reality if you followed them to the letter alot of jobs would be "impossible".
I know what will or wont work from experience rather than getting the text books out.
