hello chaps anyone knw if thm 5 day intensive training courses are any good for general plumbing and centrel heating your thoughts would be great cheers:cool:

Hi Icemans101
I doubt you would gain much in 5 days.
I did 6129 over about a year and have done lots of reading up on stuff since and I've only just touched the tip of the iceberg really. There is so much to learn and when you go out to do work in the real world and not the classroom that is where you have your work cut out.Having to deal with customers looking over your back whilst working and trying to figure things out and the added pressure of knowing it's all down to you whether the job is A1 or goes **** up.
I think sometimes maybe a little knowledge is more dangerous than none.
Good luck in whatever you choose.

general thought here,

if you think it is possible to pass your driving test from scratch within 5 days, why do you think you could be a competant plumber with only a general knowledge of different plumbing systems?.

in plumbing the odds of having 'an accident' are far greater than driving and the penalties are often more severe.

i find that driving is far easier than plumbing, how about you?.
incidently it took me 6 weeks from scratch to pass my driving test.

is this a plumbers forum or a driving test forum??? i was askin about plumbing courses not how to drive a car lmao

Its easer to learn to drive a car, then do plumbing, your first posting on this subject, substitute the word days for months, then you might be starting to understand plumbing, five years and you might be able to call yourself a plumber

i dont realy want to be a plumber im an niceic electrician i just want to get a little understanding about central heating and plumbing systems, but all i get is sarky and patranising comments, i very much dout it would be this way if i was asking you lot face to face!

Wont really get you anywhere apart from maybe a basic knowledge of plumbing if that. If its free then you may aswell do it, but I'm guessing its not and therefore I wouldnt touch it with a bargepole.

i think a 5 day course in domestic electrical installation is easier as much of its the same, plug. switch, cable, fuse. = job done.
i started there doing commercial electrical work 20 years ago in shopfitting but decided i wanted more of a challenge so spent 4 years learning plumbing i can now safely say i now how to change tap washers and a few other bits and bobs.
realisticaly i think it is possible for you to learn how to change tap washers, unblock loo's, repair toilet flush and fit new taps within 5 days if you really tried it all depends on ones ability.
good luck.;)

But what do you expect to get with a question like that ? If your an experienced tradesperson already surely common sense would answer your question. Do you think I should do a 5 day sparky's course ?

A little knowledge can be a very dangerous thing.
