Got an unvented 150l pressurised hot water tank. Heated by gas boiler downstairs and also has got an additional electric immersion heater.

Anyway, problem with one of the valves (pressure). Was originally quoted £150 to fix.

Company came out to look and unfortunately, tank has been fitted back to front. Looks like when the house was built they put the tank in and then built the walls around it. This means all the pipes emerge from rear of tank with zero clearance etc.

This means tank has to be taken out, pipework removed and redone and refitted before valve can be changed.

Quoted me now £500 and have said it'll take all day. Does this seem reasonable?

Hard to say without seeing it. It could be a really awkward job with lots of manhandling / messing about so could well be reasonable. The plumber has probably taken into account unknowns as well. If in doubt, I would get an additional quote.

same as above, it will be a real b***h of a job as a lot is needed as all pipes will need to be reworked

I would probably say near to a day but agin not seen the job

Go with what WHEPS said and take another quote to check, you should do this anyway

i would be charging around 300 plus materials looking around 350. it would take me most of day, are they re-fitting the cylinder the right way around? i work alone though. if theres 2 of them it would still take most of day but 2 people to pay.
