I don't know if any of you know this, but if work is not there, and you have signed on for a month, you are entitled to look for work abroad, in one of the member states of the EU for up to 3 months drawing the UK "dole" money from the local benefits office in the member state you are visiting, could be a nice little holiday, if you work it right, soon there will be temporary work picking apples and grapes
Also there is the Europe wide computer linked job vacancies listing I forget the name of this now, but if you search out EU forms E/119 and E/303, they will tell you more, you might have to google for the forms, because these are an ultra state secret in the UK, and have to fight hard to get them
