Has anyone been for an interview with the AA (automobile association not alcoholics anonymous lol) Ive got one on the 12th Feb and was wondering if there are any practical tests and whats involved in the written paper? Anyone have any experience of them as employers?

Someone on here went throught it and got a job. Can't remember who it was....

Im not sure if i want to stop being self employed, I applied during a quiet spell and then promptly forgot about it. The regular money would be nice but I like the freedom being self employed gives me, swings and roundabouts I suppose.............

The regular money is good being steady. But sometimes I wish I was self employed.

fancy a swap for a bit lol

Lol depends how much ya earning ;-)

Truth has it, I don't mind my job too much it's just the whole 8-5, tracker, usual politics.... Oh and having to deal with the office can be a pain.

I have been contracting for two and a bit years now. I couldn't work any other way now. I've been offered jobs at places I've contracted to and turned them down.

I got offered a job at the last place I was at, decent money as well. I asked them to treat me like one of their own for a week so I could see what their blokes dealt with. I lasted a day and a half before I told them to stop and I carried on working as normal. I earn what I need to earn then I'm on my way home.

Thats my way of thinking at the minute I get my work done and then go home, works both ways though ive pulled 16 hr days a few times, then again some days im at home by 12 at least £100 richer. Not sure i could cope with the van tracker either, how would I get to the gym when the missus has the car lol what kind of money are service and repair employees on? the advert didnt really go into it

What kind of money do they pay? Are you guys serious they have a tracker in your van??

I doubt you'll find many companies without trackers on the vans nowadays. It normally drops the insurance premium a fair bit on fleets and also cuts the fuel bill considerably.

Look at it from the companies point of view, why should they pay for your private travelling?

so is the AA a good company to work for?? cause ive been thinking about applying?

some companies allow you to pay for privcate use of the van i know sky did a few years ago and someone else told me the same thing recently

Bg vans tracked alarm received for being on job to long and going home or near home so i hear. I got nothing against tracking if stolen / crime but not for checking persons time

I have worked for a few companies over the past few years all of them have trackers fitted in the van Ive never had a problem with them I dont take the mickey so the trackers have never really been used on me where as the ones who do take the mickey deserve everything they get.

Ive gone and got some of my christmas shopping before and nobody said anything as all my work got carried out and I put in extra time and not book it.

I think I heard that it was stupidly hard, test after test.

Bloke I went to college with was talking bout it and he said they gave him 3 or 4 tests, was there for a few hours, got to the actual interview and they said, he wasnt what they were looking for.

Not trying to scare you, just pass on what I heard.

I would be worried about working there as they are renown for breakdowns so I would say that 90% of the work would be breakdowns. stressful work IMHO

I love breakdown work, It stretches the brain cells a little. Working for someone you wouldnt be as worried about fitting the wrong parts either, it wouldnt be coming from your bank acc lol

i applied last year in may/june when i was quiet and just as i applied work picked up and i havent looked back. then they got back to me last week and i did book an interview online but then realised without thinking i dont need the job i'm not quiet but will probably go anyway

its a 3 hour interview comprising of a 40 question multiple choice test
if you pass that you go to a boiler identify parts and test items with a multimeter
if you pass that you go a display of a pipework installation and idenitify the faults and recommsision it.
if you pass that you do a driving test with questions on highway code
if you pass that you get an interview.

hope that clears things up and they dont tell you there and then if you get the job or not

starting pays £32495.00

Interesting so if you fail at any point you get sent away? Fair enough I suppose they are paying pretty good dosh as well.

I attended the interview today and messed it up royally. The 40 question paper wasnt too bad you had to get 35 to move on to the next stage, I passed but thought it a bit naughty that there was lpg and unvented questions, when these were not a qualification requirement on the advert and I dont have them anyway. The pipework exercise was my downfall and I felt a total berk afterwards, they ask you to identify faults, socket too close, pipework not sleeved through cavity, incorrect fittings used, meter not secure. They then asked me to conduct a tightness test using an anton analyser which was pretty straight forward, the guy seemed offended when I said I normally use a u guage lol they like to take a print off for records apparently. However I left an isolation valve closed that was feeding a simulated appliance and was told that they would not be taking me any further. What a tit eh? Only myself to blame I think the nerves got to me, Id never do that on the job. On a plus point I may start using my analyser for tightness testing every days a school day lol
