i am starting my acs on tuesday anybody got any advice

thanks:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Hi Alfie,
Good tip for the 'practical' - always test the test equipment.
So, if using a manometer, blow gently into the tube to get 20-ish mbar, pinch the tube closed & hold for a moment or two to ensure it holds.
& make sure assesser sees you doing it - it looks like you know what you're doing.
Oh, & try not to knock it over when working (unless you have perfected the art of refilling it under the watchful eye of Mr Assesser - no pressure there, then lol!

i know its ridicoulous advice but try to stay calm
2 stages
1/written exams no real issues its all in the bs or your notes
2/practical just look for all obv things and that will show your competence and then think of all the sneaky bits they have thrown in for you to spot

Hi
Try to drink plain water, during the day as this helps synapes in the briain fire quicker this in turn helps things you have studied come back to mind. Also if feeling tense just stop wait a moment or too and carry on. DO NOT get it to a competive spirt and thing you must finish quicker than who ever, if you finish last but pass who cares.

My advice is make sure you know exactly what your required to do if in any doubt ask the assessor they should not bite

watch out for rigged appliances, the assesers are always inducing faults, swot up on gas rates [they will look for that]and purge volumes

thanks for all the tips
i am really nervous

but once it starts i should be ok:confused::confused::confused::confused:

yes you will be alright mate, the asseser is there to teach and guide you

the assessor is there to assess you, not teach you, but as others have said you are perfectly entitled to ask for good clear guidance on what is asked of you, it is not a crime not to understand the assessors request as you are under pressure, any assessor worth his salt will put you at ease and make sure you have every chance of passing, one tip i would offer is on no account ever guess an answer, if you dont know then look it up, i would expect you to be able to do TT, flue flow, spillage etc without thinking, but you wouldnt be the first to ask for MI's to confirm where spillage test must be carried out from, that impresses me more than me not being sure if you had a lucky guess to where the spillage test was done rather than asking, relax and you should be fine, an assessor will suss out in the first 5-10 mins if you know your stuff and will "assist" you as much as you need, if you are full of Bullsh*t you will get hung out to dry

yes i am a trainer/assessor and i agree that a good assessor uses his/her training/experience/judgement when dealing with people taking ACS exams, i have met many, many good engineers who were not so good at putting their answers down on paper so they get all the assistance they need, without me telling them the answers, i truly believe my role is to confirm the candidate meets the criteria to work safely and if not they get the "not yet competant" sheet, and if that means they have to stop gas work then fine by me

fair enough then i am not trying to have a go as it were, just going on watching my assessors seen somebody sent home once for saying i can service a bermuda in 1/2 an hour so as you can guess they wasnt impressed rightly so as i take 1and 1/2 -2 hours inc paperwork to do it properly
