Hi all
Im after a bit of advice and guidance which I hope you can help me with.
Im currently working within IT for LTSB and have been doing so for the past 11 years (since I was 16). Due to the banking crisis and recession etc, redundancy looks likely at the end of this year so I thought the time had come to learn a trade as ive always been interested in working for myself and a lot of my mates are Plasterers, Sparks etc so I decided to enrol to a plumbing course (towards NVQ 2).
Ive recently finished this course but due to me working fulltime (for the moment!) im unable to gain any experience by helping out local plumbers and I think my only option is to advertise in work and take on some ‘small jobs’ in the evening and weekends etc.
What I wanted to know is, from your experience in ‘domestic plumbing’ what are the most typical jobs you come across as I want to prep myself and put together a toolkit and didn’t want to buy anything that I wasn’t going to use or need for the time being..
Any other advice for starting out on my own would be appreciated!
thanks
Liam

bathroom installations, cistern faults, rad changes, first and second fix kitchens, washing machines dishwashers etc.

you'll know the tools you need from the course youve done, nvq level 2 or city and guilds tech certs?

what you need to understand is that every tom dick and harry are doing these little jobs so you'll get pittance for a job or no jobs at all. you need to get higher up the learning curve to get the chance to even qoute for jobs.

Hi Lobby your pals. There likley to know a plumber or two, who can help you develop. If so shadow him as time allows and ask questions. As for tools have a look around car boot sales, some of the tools there are better quality than tool shops. Good Luck

Thanks both..
Yeah i understand everyones doing these small jobs at the moment but i feel it will give me more confidence by succesfully completing small jobs and then move onto bigger jobs as and when required.
Car boot sales is a good idea for tools to get me started..
thanks again!
Liam
