Advice for Vaillant boiler please

Hi I have a vaillant ecotec plus 38 and the boiler shuts the radiator system off when ever it is time to heat the hot water, is this normal? or is there a fault? or a way of making the boiler heat the water and the radiators at the same time?

this is a combi boiler, the boiler will always switch over to hot water only when you open the hot tap, you cannot run the hot water an heating at the same time.

Sorry it's a vaillant ecotec plus 438 system boiler defenatley a system boiler not combi

The 438 is a heat only boiler.
There should be either a three way motorised valve, or 2 2 port valve sto control your heating and hot water circuits.

If you have a three way valve, then perhaps it is an old style diverter, rather than a mid position valve. If fitted correctly, then a mid position valve should do exactly what you are after.
