Hi, Last time the tundish started dripping on my pressured system, the plumber re-pressurised the expansion vessel to 3bar as per the label on the tank and all was fine for say 1-2 years before the dripping started again. This was as before, about 10 minutes after the boiler fired up to heat the tank on a morning and after so long the dripping would stop (presumably after the tank was up to temperature and the boiler shut down?).
So, I have purchased a floor pump with long hose and tried repressurising the tank myself. This, after I had checked the valve on the top of the unit. On pressing the pressure pin in there is no air escaping i.e. 0bar pressure, and no water leak. However, with the pump connected it's extremely hard to get any air into the tank. There is massive resistance in the floor pump and the pressure guage shoots right round as if pumping against a blockage.
I remember the plumber struggling, but he did manage it. I think somehow he reduced the pressure in the tank by releasing one of the two valves and I vaguely recall he locked one open somehow (the one that isn't the temperature related one out of the top/side of the main tank). While he was pumping, water would escape through the tundish, presumably as he replaced water with air in the expansion tank.
I can always return the pump and call the plumber out again, but I thought I was capable of such a simple job....!
Any ideas appreciated!
Thanks.
Ian.
