I had a boiler check today all went well, and then he went to check on the gas meter which is in my larder in the kitchen high up on the wall.
That wasn’t too much of an issue, although the gas engineer did say that it wasn’t a common place to have it, but it was there when we moved in so normal for us.
The EVC safety thingy is not in a normal place, though it is behind the meter on the other side of the wall, high up behind a cupboard. About a foot away. That was also there when we moved in and we just put a cupboard over it to hide it, although you can get to it by opening the cupboard and in my case standing on a chair..
The gas engineer was horrified with this set up and said that I would have to have my meter relocated to the same place as the EPC lever and he would have to put a secondary lever on further down so it was easier to access. He was going to cut me off completely for the heating and hot water, but then phoned somebody and was advised that he didn’t have to just issued me with a warning.
I am awaiting a quote ( they are probably still adding it up 🙈)from the same company to have the meter moved into the cupboard. Is there any other way around this because I fear this could be an astronomical amount of money…

you will have to call the gas transporter / networks team out as everything before the meter is there responsibility

Also he couldn’t turn you off for that as there’s nothing unsafe about it just not to current standards
