Have gained all plumbing qualifications and was thinking about going forward from here and gain a job where I could help design and plan large site jobs.

Have been looking at a qualification in Building Services Engineering but was wondering if anyone had any idea on other qualifications I could gain to become part of the engineers team on bigger projects.

Don't get me wrong, I love plumbing and have always been an installer but I would like to now be more a part of the management and planning stages of a job.

Any ideas, thanks

Ben

Your options are pretty much as follows:

Nat Cert in building services then Higher Nat Cert in building services - 2 years each total 4 years

management qual - 2 years - but wont help you design systems

get a job as a trainee designer and leanr as you work - highly unlikely unless youve been at a firm 20 years

theres lots of other short courses but they are not at a higher level than an NVQ3, without going into professional studies thats the best design course there is

fuzzy out of interest are they part time or work based as per nvq - is it something you can do in your spare time ?

all are professional qualifications and are unit based. each unit has a large assignment. nothing to do with work so it can be done by anyone at any time

there is an NVQ site management and a building services level4 but i dont know if any college offer it and tbh they will be going this summer anyway, thats all i know im afraid

no worrys something to think aboujt for the future would like to get off the tools by time i hit 50

the tools is good money and a settled way of life. to come off the tools requires time and money, time to do the courses, money to do the courses, time to apply for jobs, drop in money to begin with.
i have spoke to people on the tools who say i wouldnt go for a bosses job i couldnt afford the drop, it depends what you want
