Hi everyone,

i have a customer who wants to supply a aftermarket fan for ideal classic ff380 boiler, i only supply genuine parts myself.

Is their any legislation stating you can not fit aftermarket parts? also what are your guys thoughts on aftermarket parts?

Advice appreciated

Needs to be manufacturer approved or a manufacturer part

Same reason why every manufacturer wont warranty non manufacturer parts there is a tb about it inferior manufacturering

Call me cynical  (I know you're shocked) but it's nothing but protectionism and morally reprehensible.
In Europe, yes another reason for leaving..., a manufacturer has to prove the product is inferior before they can refuse warranty through using non manufacturers parts.
Hey what do bl00dy foreigners know?

i may be wrong this is from memeory from a long time ago at British gas,

if it isnt one of their parts you are breaking gas safety regs by altering the design of the boiler.

If that were the case, then some boilers, for example could not be fitted as manufacturers flueing arrangements are extremely limited. After market/specialist flue makers know far more about such things than do manufacturers so offer arrangements to not only 'do the job' but exceed manufacturers specs. In a court of law, which is where such things are invariably decided, expert witnesses produced by a manufacturer would be trumped by the specialists.

Often in design of a whole system like a boiler, the design of specialist elements like fans, flues, hexs, PRVs etc is outsourced to specialists who suggest a part to meet the boiler manus spec. The boiler manu does not design it themselves. Next time you disassemble look much more closely at the part. Often they have the original manus details on them.
