I see in lots of books and manuals that you shouldn't blow into air pressure switches as yoyo can damage them. But the guy who taught me swears by it. So there must be other people out there that do it this way. Are you one of them?

APS are a pita, most band a,s now do without them however they are a very good safety feature,if a flue comes apart the APS will cause the boiler to play up a case in point a elderly ariston a23 i look after has a long vertical flue run in the loft, work around my way is being done via the regeneration malarkey with windows and roofs being replaced the dimwit roofers replaced the guys roof and disconnected the flue in the loft a gsr was called into check it out,and declared the fan was knackered did not even check out what the roofers had done in the loft the result i was called in as the boiler would not work because the APS would not satisfy, despite the flue being totally disconnected and the boiler vitiating like mad the first gsr was too stupid to spot this result was i sorted the flue and riddor everyone else
if this was a band a it might not have shut down and killed this family

So even on boiler flues that don't provide self tappers, you use your own? I usually only install villains and they come with. But I have installed a few viessmann heat only boilers and they don't. So I am going to join you guys and do the same.

yes use my own, baxi dont give any,i even self tap horizontals and make good with cement both sides, that flues never coming apart

I blow down them gently. Can't say as they are a part I regularly change though tbh. I generally only blow down the Ravenheat ones when the combustion door is off, they will not fire if the door is off and checking a spark is a pain if you need to keep taking the 13 screws in and out!

Generally they'll have a NC and an NO you can check continuity over from the Common, but sometimes you need to contact technical if the use a different method of proving. The Vokera Sytesi is one for example.

Just on the subject of flues coming apart, I find with the Baxi boilers (Duo Tec, Megaflo) the boiler sounds like it's going to explode and tenant's usually report this before the situation gets too bad.

Gas man, have you been to any Duo Tecs with the internal exhaust cracked? You should have seen the one I took out the other day, looked like I'd jumped on it! Totally wrecked. Had to replaced 2 and a half flue extensions.

400 odd boilers not had one single flue crack, has it been damaged by something?

I don't know, but had 4 now the same. Some worse than others. Seems to be where the metal clip/spacer things that keeps the inner and outer flue apart from each other sits, the pressure eventually crack the plastic and it just gets worse and worse as the flue temperature gets higher and higher through the mixing of combustion products and intake air. They sounds terrible, blow themselves out and the customer usually reports this, along with no hot water. A quick sample of the air will pretty much confirm it.
