How is an air separator normally plumbed in? The one I have been looking at has 2 pipes coming in at the bottom, one from the flow the other to the pump, another pipe goes from the top to the cold feed, in the flow side there is a 'T' up to the vent. However I think I have seen them with the 'T' going to the cold feed and the top pipe going to the vent. Can anybody enlighten me.

Normally top pipe to vent, but I think they cause more trouble because the cold feed gets bloked.

I always remove them

I stay away from them i prefer removing feed & expansion and fitting expansion vessel

thats ok but, if older style boiler is installed, some are not permitted to have sealed system. the only good thing for them is when first installed they do get rid of all the air, but as some have said, years later they get blocked with scale etc Normally they should be on the flow from the boiler, vent of top 'first' then cold feed, like a close coupled vent & feed, no more than 6" apart
