Hi all,

Currently doing a bit of sub work and was asked to re-fit a bathroom. The bloke gave me all appliances and just told me to fit it - no plans, nothing. It turns out that he didn't measure the room or appliances and it is a tight squeeze to say the least - obviously my fault!!!!

Long story short he is involving himself way to much in the project, criticising my work (because it is tight in the room) and basically driving me up the wall. He is also requesting that I move the shower and basin wastes and make good ready for tiling which isn't my strong point. It all very nearly kicked off yesterday but I bit my tongue. I am close to telling him to poke his project and just move on, money is not great about a tenner an hour.

Advise would be great.

Cheers

basically it is up to you to decide, but he sounds like a nightmare, no plans fit as you see fit is always going to end in tears, i wont fit a rad on the wall without getting the customer to come and agree to the position while it is stood on the floor, i then make a deal of marking the centre of the rad while they are there, then the next day when they say can i just move it a couple of inches to the left i say i can do anything for extra money, without their prior agreement it just becomes an arguement, for your job he want alterations, is he paying you if so, decide whether you want his money or not.

Tell him to get someone else , it will end in tears so make sure they are his. the tiling should have been done first anyway. If he is so good at plumbing why is he getting someone else to do it? why are you moving the wastes? did he specify them in a particular place to start with? if not I would say this and charge extra.

i would ask for some money now,see how he reacts, then if he,s not forthcoming with any money,i would rip it out and i mean rip out,and be off

Sounds like more hassle than its worth! After you have made alterations whats not to say he might want those altering? Tell him to stick it mate!

walk away it can only end in tears the guy is taking the pxxsfor a tenner a hour ,get him to pay you up and go

cheers for your advice. You have all given the answer to what I was thinking. I had to move the rad up my all of 20mm for no real reason. Anyway, the rad is currently capped of as are the tails to the basin, the toilet tail and the shower tail. would you finish or just get out while I can as I really think he will want it all changed again anyway?

If you were happy with the rate and he wants to change things I would say 'no problem as long as he is paying up'. Seems a bit off to criticise if you are doing want is asked competently though.

To be honest if I could get a plumber to help out at that rate and who was willing to muck in I would be well pleased and not moaning. (probably supply a small beer and sarnies or salad at lunch time as well.
