serviced an andrews ec380/980 a week ago, been having an intermittent flame failure fault lately.
hot surface ignitor had a resistance of 2500 ohms. manufacturer suggests over 2000 and replace. so ordered the part.
fitted the part yesterday at 10am, all fired up lovely did my normal checks and left.
after 3 hours i got a call from the site manager, hot water gone off and had tripped the mcb to main plant room ! thought he was wrong so headed back.
sure enough whole plant room down. traced the fault to andrews heater and low and behold the hot surface ignitor. put it down to bad luck and got another one ordered sharply.
problem was its a hair dressing college, and no hot water upset them hairdressers !
got a new one today, from interpart. fitted, worked lovely. left. 3 hours passed and i get the call from site manager. same again. ime now pooing pants thinking it must be something else.
exactly the same problem. unit does its pre flight checks and the second it sent power to hsi plantroom mcb pops.
started looking for all possible alternatives, checked and rechecked wiring. proved it was a live to neutral short and not to earth. it only left the hsi
ripped the thing out of boiler. put a 2a mcb on the thing and wired a plug to it. put it in a rcd protected socket. turned on. watched it glow and then pop all the electrics again. not before i saw it spark internally through the porcelain insulation.
rang andrews technical and informed them of the faulty parts. they asked me to send their boss an email to make him aware.
thought i'd share that one for future reference.
see what happens when the one arrives tommorow !
please be from a different batch
