I do not want to get into a-what you charge and what I charge dispute- but my £50 for getting in the van + mileage + hourly rate is Honestly what I charge.
The difference may actually be, last week I was is anglesey (wales) also Birmingham on my way home then back to brum on Monday.
I mainly (80%) work on heat pumps (see previous posts) and work when I am home for my regular customers

even dick turpin wore a mask :)

kidding fella kidding . over near you tomorrow armthopre.

mines £45 but thinkning of upping

40 first hour 30 thereafter - that includes the minute i get into van to the minute i leave job - includes trip to merchant if needed.

I like to see myself as "the village plumber" so price is anything from free to £40 for small jobs (plus parts), then normal 1/2 day/full day rate after that. Seems to work.

Had a cracking day recently. Popped into village at just after 4pm and by 5:45pm I'd fixed a pan connector leak at one customer (£40), inspected a non issue with another customer (£0), temporarily fixed a basin trap leak for the third (£0 then £60 when I returned a couple of days later for a permanent fix), then tried to get a boiler running for the last customer, which turned into a £600 job after another week or two (new tank, new oil line, etc.)

And all this after I'd been out for a £150 job somewhere else that day.

Min £45 charge unless it's turning up a room stat or topping up a combi. When there are parts fitted minimum two hours at £50 per hour. Day rate on installing min £300 a day but hopefully more like £400. suppose it depends on your area. Where I am people are installing for almost nothing. Luckily I've been trading fourteen years and seem to get a lot of recommendations.

Interesting to see a range of prices charged. Obviously depends on areas people are all based in and not everyone is fortunate enough to charge at the higher end of the scale. Perhaps people are scared of charging too much as don't want to scare away potential customers.

Personally what each guy charges is none of my business and people have no right judging anyone else on what they charge. If I was charging £80 an hour and getting plenty of work (yeah right lol) and another guy tells me I'm too expensive it's sour grapes nothing else.

I hope to be up and trading myself by the end of the year and my prices will be low to compensate for my lack of speed. I will just have to ensure that I do as good (or better) a job as anyone else if it's taking me longer. As my confidence grows after time I will adjust my prices accordingly. We are all ripped off by the giant corporations every day whether it's for clothes, food, petrol etc so no one should have to explain why they are £20 dearer than anyone else.

Everyone needs to make a living and if you can get away with charging high prices and having a large customer base, all I can say is good for you and I hope I'm in a similar position a few years down the road.

Good attitude mate, It does not come over night as you know. Take every job as it comes and do it proper. At home I sometimes work on price but I work mainly for larger companies who like to cross the "T" and dot the "I" hence the hourly rate
