is their any life on this forum ?
its got about as much get up & go as a wet weekend.

It is a new forum you know compared to some....give it time and with plenty friendly input it will get better and bigger.....

Why what do you want to happen ?? saying that the tilers forum has more banter ...dont know why. :)

one question per day isn't what i call fun, and i don't wish to talk about bloody courses or people that work in IT.

people are probably fed up of being jumped on and abused with foul language everytime they ask a perfectly reasonable question!!!
the site owners ought to take a leaf out of the plasterers forum and ban all the ones that do that!!!!
newcomers have to learn! just because they know everything...

This isn't the plasterers froum though is it...:p....no honestly we are trying to make this forum a good place to visit and ask questions and we want time served guys to find this a place to have banter...but as with all our forums we just don't allow any kind of abuse towards other members.....

You are always going to get newcomers to all trades and this is the place to ask questions isn't it..?

So if they are told how to do it correctly then at least this saves a customer from having a bad job done....i am talking about general plumbing not gas installations etc or anything that isn't allowed to be done by none corgi guys etc.. i think you get my drift..

Lets try and make this forum a place to visit and a place to talk about for good reasons and not just ..OH!! dont go on there coz you will get verbaly attacked for a newbie....

thanks for taking time to read this and happy posting lads and lasses...:D

It will get there lads...just be patient and time will heal the wounds..so to speak....
As with all forums you will get negative answers but reading through some of the archives on here there are a good set of lads on here...

And i'm sure more will follow with good advice to be proud of...;)..

You've also got to be aware that some posters are earning their living through heating and plumbing work and resent unqualified people trying to muscle in on their terrirtory.

From other forums I'm a member of (non plumbing related) I've found that your best bet is to be honest about your level of skill and don't be offended if people tell you that a job is beyond your capabilities.

A lot of plumbing jobs can be undertaken by a competent DIYer but when it comes to things like boiler repairs and gas work it really is best to get a professional in if you don't know what you're doing.

I never cease to be amazed at some of the people that wander into the merchants pretending to be trade, don't know what they need and when they finally figure out what it is they want proceed to ask the counter staff how to do the job. If the counter staff knew how to do the job they wouldn't be on that side of the counter.

agree with you mike, no gas or over complicated work for me ! just domestic plumbing. if anything more than that is offered i do have a gorgi guy that has a look.

I must admit, I do wonder sometimes why a qualified tradesmen, who has taken years to learn his trade, would want to help a member of the public so that he can avoid paying for his services.

Personally i think they like to see a job done right rather than it bodged and then someone gets killed etc...wouldn't you agree...?..

Some oh these lads spend they nor so frequent spare time to answer questions and they don't have too........so a thumbs-up from me lads..thanks for taking time to contribute...

Oh yes, I agree that we don't want to see anyone killed etc, but surely the best way to prevent that is to make sure that a trained professional is on the job - for a small fee!!!!

not even a tradesman who has spent years learning his trade would be able to explain how to do a job capable enough to kill someone simply by just verbaly explaining it to them anyway now would they surely? thats why its took them years to learn it in the first place! so if they did attempt a job on that kind of scale after just a chat they;d be complete dingles anyway! especialy if gas were involved! "wat price life!!" pay for an expert.. the only job you could have a go at after a simple explanation is changing a tap washer. even then DONT FORGET TO TURN THE WATER OFF!!!... some jobs you can have a bash at others you just have to pay for... if you dont you will certainly pay later..
